    As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

    When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

    Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

    Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

    Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Fist couple of rides I kinda did not like it. Handled like shit and has no power. Couple more rides I realize it has power it's just a 4 banger, rev it stupid. My VT1000 had such huge bottom I always shifted about 3K. :>) The K100 likes to sing at 4000-6500 and ride the mid. Anyway I got new tires today and it totally transformed the bike. The rear was some Metzler 880 marathon long mile POS. The front was a Metz laser which was 80% gone. The new Bridgestone BT-45's freaking RULE. Super smooth handling, The motor / EFI is liquid smooth from 1 RPM to 9K. Brakes are very strong. Bike is comfy. Has ton of under seat storage which is totally cool. Has a three position quick headlight adjust so if you add a passenger and / or luggage your good to go. Lots of cool little features. The single sided swing arm make taking the rear wheel off EZ. Comfy, smooth, fluid, competent, shes a keeper.

Interesting ...... One rear semi-vertical shock .. What year is this bike? It does look comfortable ... What is that hanging out on the sides of the engines wth bmw written on it?

I have a daytona 955 and it had worn out tires at fist ... It was like a riding on a rail ... then I replaced them and it was like riding on a rounded pencil after that ... it would just roll back and forth when you leaned it over from side to side with no rough sports at all ...
 
it's a 96. Single sided swing arm with one direct mounted shock. Works surprisingly well. As for the motor it is an in line 4 cylinder with the motor mounted on it's side. Crank case on one side the head on the other. Odd setup, seems to work well. BMW has been doing things differently for a long time.

The engine looks really weird ... But its just mechanical parts though ... as long as the oil can get distributed correctly inside the engine , it should work like any other I guess ... I just never liked the heads pointing out to the sides on a bike ...

Probably low mileage?

Well I hope it works out for them :lol: Been in continuous production in some form since 83 and is known as a motor that is super reliable and good for 300K plus miles...

The first K-series production bike was the K100, which was introduced in the 1983. In 1988 BMW introduced the K1 which had the Bosch Motronic fuel injection system.
From 1985 to 1996, the K75 740 cc three-cylinder engine was produced.
In 1991 BMW increased the displacement of the K 100 from 987 cc, and the model designation became the K1100 (1,097 cc). The K1100LT was the first with the new engine displacement. In 1998 BMW increased the size again to 1,170 cc. This upgraded flat four engine appeared in the K1200RS. This engine is still in production for the K1200LT.

Very low center of gravity, smooth as silk EFI, 5th gear is good for 40-140, amazing. Almost never have to shift on the open road.
 
UPDATE:

did a 300 mile rip in the mountains / Columbia gorge yesterday. WOW I like this bike. Just melts away the miles and is sporty / useful. Buddy Adam on the DL650

I meant the bike probably has low miles on it now ... It seems very typical to find bikes in the usa that are purchased and sit in garages for years before the owner decides to sell them ...

Myself, I have 4 n the garage now but have sold 2 ... The other 2 may sit till I die, who knows? ...

bmw streeters run a long time... that is 4 sure ... their bikes might have the highest longevity of any bikes ...

Yep, I can remember when a 350 was a big bike and the 650s ruled all of them ...

Bike gearing is a little strange and I say this because of my 883 Harley 5 speed ... really strange as compared to a dirt bike but seems to work out on the bike due to the engine and most twisty roads when accelerating and doing some small time racing :)

On the mountains. We were riding around three mountains, Adam, St. Helens and Hood. They are all over 10K have had snow all year. Well St. Helens is shorter now and melts off all the way. :D

I would love a street bike, but I just cant seem to get my fill of dirt bikes. I'm sure one rip through the mountains would change all though. Looks super fun!

yes, Adam you met with the WR250. I like riding street when it is hot and dusty out. I prefer dirt riding in the tackier, wetter conditions. I know, I'm weird. Also it is so EZ to hop on the street bike after work, go for a rip and be back in a few hours. No gear or dirty bike to deal with. Simple and fun.

I have been riding street since high school. Not a ton but enough. I have a nice Superhawk and was going to repaint it, do up the seat raise the bars etc to make it more long range comfy. I decided to instead look for a K100. I always wanted one and they are relatively cheap now and figured it would be much better than my Superhawk for long rides. It is but the hawk is more fun (big power). I found it on CL, turned out to be a guy I knew and just spoke to at Blackdog and he made me a smoking deal.

One thing you notice on the street bike riding is that you will not be beat up nearly as bad the next day after a ride as compared to dirt bike riding ... & U do have laws and regulations and speed limits to contend with also ...

I've owned a K1100LT since mid '96, which I bought brand new. It's a very reliable bike. Now, before you see the letters LT and think it's like the K1200 Light Tank, think again. This one is geared a little different than the RS and has a somewhat larger fairing which allow for an electric windscreen and stereo, but it's by no means the Goldwing wannabe that today's LT is.

This sucker handles almost as well as the RS and is made for touring. I regularly humble sport bike squids on this bike. Yeah, sure, a really good rider on a sport bike will eat me for lunch. But I'll make it to lunch in Montana and be able to keep riding all day, every day for weeks!

There's a forum for K1100 owners and the K100 is nearly identical (only a few minor changes with the boring out). Check out http://k11og.org They have a helpful forum and quite of bit of handy technical info as well.
 
Thanks for the info. I'll check the site out soon. Maybe you know, I am interested in slightly taller, wider and back handlebars. Any leads that work with the K100
 
The LT bars may be what you're looking for...

I came close to buying an ex cop brick,a K100 cop version,what there called in OZ,a mate did.The idea was it would last for years,problem was it was just to carlike and like I said that petrol pump in the tank whine so he swopped it for a 600 Pantah. Ten years pass and whats he got now,suprise suprise a K1200s,close to the same just with way more power and more gadgets,and I have the Pantah.The more things change.BTW for a bike that was designed to be on the road all day,cop bike,the screen was not that good,lots of buffuting and wind noise for an average height bloke.
 
I had BMWs back in the 70s and got started restoring them a few years back. In those days they were about the best thing for covering long distances. This one is a 76.

If you want to go for a rip Kelly let me know, there is a 630mile loop in Eastern Or that is a fun day ride. A lot of canyons.
 
If you're ever after a muffler for the K100, I've a brand new Staintune muffler here that never got used, after I sold a few bikes to raise some business capital. It's a round section muffler, with semi sports internals. By No means is it loud / like a jap 4:1 sound, just makes it sound like a MC, and not a sewing machine. All stainless construction, uses the std headers, much lighter, beautiful quality - most who have been around bikes for a while will know of Staintune. I think the K100 mufflers are no longer made by Staintune.

I've also got a pair of sports internals, R100, 38mm Staintune pipes.

I've just never got around to unearthing them fro the back of my workshop. I need to learn the ins and outs of EBay, as I've got so much stuff from projects ( things like entire pairs of brand new Pantah 600 heads , starter clutches, regulators, gearboxes etc, etc - I make TT2/TT1 and various other frames, Alloy tanks, along with my bicycle frames). Too much of a pack rat, like most of us bike riders , I guess.
