  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

blown up motor needs help

Husqvarna
so its not quite out of the bike and torn down yet but im just curious for now.

it was winning really bad then went boom and locked up and blew oil and black smoke out the back for a bit.

sounds like a bottom end issue to me? but then i drained my oil to start and all the coolant came out of the oil...

i think im in store for a bottom and top end replacement but have any of you other guys had this issue?

bike it an 09 smr 450 with just under 6000 miles, half of those being track miles.

if its both top and bottom blown am I better off buying a whole new engine?

have anyone before tried making an insurance claim on something like this and is it even worth it? I have full coverage on it with a 500 deductible.

I had bottom end done (crankshaft, oil pump, cylinder) on a te250 and it was around $2k with service/labor/parts and a big fat headache. Depending on damage, maybe another 500 for top end parts??

I doubt an insurance claim would work. Typical insurance claims involve others and is an accident... Sorry to hear this.

It will live again! As long as the case is ok than it's just a rebuild with all bearings and damaged parts replaced. 1500-2500 should put it back onto the Tarmac. Good luck with it! Like what was said, insurance covers accidents, extended warranties cover failures.

my other option that will get me going in half the time is a used 510 from an 07. but what other issues will i run into if i throw in a 510cc?

also high miles scares me but here is the guys listing on his motor

8500mi., 1 track day, excellent cond., fresh rings, rod new @ 6200mi., rod side clearance .013" (.012-.030 std.) valves leak checked & in spec., piston checked for cracks (no measurable wear.) No wear on clutch basket. Modifications from stock 1.0mm head gasket (1.2mm stock)

Yep, I would bet on what Blacktop said. If not mechanically inclined, box up the motor in a cooler and send to favorite shop for complete rebuild. Otherwise, start opening and breaking it down, make list, order parts, rebuild and enjoy. I would stay away from the 510 motor you posted up above.

it looks like all i have left are cases and a tranny. valves bent too so im only assuming they cracked the head in the process.

halls had some used parts that Jeff over their said are good so its getting a 510 crank, removing the counter balanced, then a 530 piston and cylinder and hopefully i can find a RR head otherwise ill just go with the RR intake cam. after i sell a kidney that is.
