  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

Blown head gasket

Husky-511

Husqvarna
Has anybody experienced a blown head gasket on the new 2011-13 450/511 models? Tips with replacing the gasket greatly appreciated.

Only 23 hours on my TXC 511 . Not happy....

ya I think my head gasket is blown on my 2011 TC449
my coolant gets all merky and dissapears bike only has like 20hrs on it so keep me posted i'm kinda bumd

Obviously that isn't normal and you are sure that none of it came the over flow? I have seen defective radiator caps before and have personally experienced loose hoses. I have never seen a defective head gasket on a new 449, but that doesn't mean that it can't happen. :excuseme:

I have had conditions where it pressurizes the cooling system and forced the coolant out the overflow. An easy test is to strap an overflow bottle on and see if it fills up to the brim. With the rad cap off on a cold engine, idling the engine should quickly cause it to force the coolant to overflow the rad. Hope this helps. Cam.

When my 07 had a blown head gasket, you could see bubbles in the water at the top of the radiator, while running. I'm a lame mechanic, but I was told this condition points to a blown gasket. It did and I replaced and that fixed the issue. Hope this helps.

The laws are only laws until we prove otherwise. I'm absolutely certain in 500 years we will be looking back at our laws of physics like we look at the medical practices of the 18th century. I'm certain advancements in science, math, physics, and theory will not dissapoint. ...unless the stupid people continue to breed at an overwhelming rate. :)

Not trying to get too far off base here but ... Shutting down the yahoo web site will be a giant step in stopping this stupidity thing you speak of ... :)

Not sure our current physics can change ... It is what it is and not so easy to prove Einstein wrong on physics after almost 100 yrs ... In another 400 yrs? who knows ...

This first thread will show how impossible space travel really is because of our current physics and again, Mr Einstein has it written on paper..

This one is the comic book reality we stand at today and it will take someone to build on Newtons and Einstein work to change it or real space aliens :)

This just happened ... and is continuing as we type.

Definitely not off base. This all relates to blown head gaskets and is far more interesting. Good reads, btw, thanks for the links. :)

As for physics changing. I have an older friend of my mothers who is a die hard physicist. His answer, "Change in the science community happens very slowly, one death at a time". When you have 10 people pulling on an object in different directions it's hard to make progress. There are brilliant minds out there, but few of them work together. Some have stubborn opinions and are rather loud mouthed in the science community and it creates confusion, bad science, bad teaching, and bad ideas being popularized.
I believe the last 100 years has been a very short time frame for developing science and that great advances will happen in the future when we have the technology to actually back up the ideas. Technology, has changed more in the last 10 years, than the entire lifetime of this planet prior. I believe as technology grows, we will be able to see the science, math, and physics following... and perhaps different ideas we never knew possible and new laws that support them. It could be 500 years. It could be tomorrow.

I think in the next 100 years, perpetual motion will be achieved. Though it won't be easily applicable, I think we can get at least that far. Which, would defy a few current laws. :) It's all speculation at this point, but I want to believe anyways. Seriously, if all we have to look forward to in 100 years is the Iphone 98, and what new program is on TV, I'm gonna be awefully dissapointed.

Anyone seen that movie Idiocracy? I honestly look around daily and question if it won't come to that. Hehe :)

In my case there was radiator fluid in the header pipe which is an obvious indication of a blown head gasket. Ended up taking the motor to the dealer and it turned out to be the case. They had no explanation of why this would happen. Bad assembly or faulty gasket..frustrating..

That's too bad, just curious but did they give you an estimate on that job?

On the subject of stupid people, one of the reasons I ride is to escape from the dee de dee masses.

These are the same people who are so busy checking the gui screen in the hybrid to see if they are saving the world or using gas. If you thought being behind a soccer mom with a cell phone glued to her ear is frustrating, you ain't seen nothing.

I blew my inner head gasket on my WR last year several times. I would lose all of my coolant but none would end up in the bottom end. It was all vaporized and came out the exhaust and some ended up collecting in the expansion chamber. I know you have a 4t but if your losing coolant it HAS to be going somewhere. If your only losing small amounts at a time its very probable that you do have a small leak in the head gasket. Like others said I would go the cheaper route first though and give your cooling hoses a good once over and then swap out the radiator cap. Also look for anywhere on the motor that dirt has collected and it looks wet. Always an easy way to tell. Did you check head bolt torque and make sure nothing loosened up? Any coolant in your head pipe? Keep us posted.
