  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

blown clutch cover gasket 310r

AA Class
Rode the sawmill enduro this last Sunday and had a great time, but at first gas pit@ 32miles in, I found oil leaking out the bottom of the engine. Further inspection showed the bottom of the clutch cover gasket litteraly blew out and the last of my oil leaking out...assuming as the inspection glass was empty while leaning the bike. The bolts were all fairly tight. I have to wash the bike before pulling the cover....it was a mudfest...even lost my rear brakes for a few miles.
Is there anything I should look for once I pull it apart? Or just replace and refill? The motor was not making any abnormal sounds before turning it off. I wonder if the rekluse overheated and caused the issue? It was acting funny in the beginning of the race and struggled on a few climbs.

A clutch cover gasket just doesn't "blow out". Is there a chance a rock or something might have cracked it or punch a hole in it?

You need to drain whats left of the oil. Depending on what comes out will determine whether or not you need to pull the engine apart.

I'll check tomorrow...havnt had time to wash it yet...its literally packed with mud and clay. I could be missing something obvious.

Well rinced the bike and only had time to crack the cover....like I said blew out. I'll check remaining oil tomorrow.

Not right there.....I could be wrong though...it has had 8-900 miles since installed. I did adjust it a week ago but was careful and didn't notice a tear. It is possible though. Hopefully findings tomorrow are good.

I'd replace the gasket, refill the oil and fire it up. If it sounds and idles ok, I'd ride it. If it didn't seize it's probably ok.

I'm surprised your clutch didn't come with adjustable slave....mine did. I thought the Core was the only available version for this bike?

I would closely inspect the Rekluse clutch cover and make sure the gasket mating surface doesn't have any abnormalities. If there is a low spot (concave) on the cover mating surface it wouldn't support the gasket properly. I wonder if the bolts could have loosened a bit on the cover, having the same affect.

Bolts were snug. Its an older rekluse from before the adj slave. I'll take a straight edge to it tomorrow

Agreed, I keep reading this thread title and thinking "If the clutch cover gasket blew out, that means there's a build up of pressure in the engine cases and that's a problem right there." The gasket most likely was damaged in the past.

Well the oil looked fine no metal particles. There were two chucks of alum possibly the size of pin heads, but I think that was just castings.
Other than that my bike is beat...tear in the seat, tin caned licence plate, both fork guards broken, three broken turn signals, broken starter switch, crack radiator guard plastics, broken headlight housing and a crushed ee skid plate.....the bike has been getting it though.
I'll order up a switch and gasket and continue having fun.

one more check after changing gasket and fresh oil. Do a complete crank vent system check to be sure your crankcase vents are unblocked.
if stock config verify your cam cover to frame (catch tank) and your upper frame (catch tank) to the intake boot is clear. may as well check the lower frame (catch tank drain back) as well.
"and continue having fun"
