  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

2 laps in on my new HTM "black edition" head she blew the helicoils right out of the cylinder along with all the head bolts! Apparently she wanted race fuel and I only fed her premium, oops!!!image.jpg

I don't think that's what happened. Your piston wouldn't look that good if detonated from low octane.

What does the exhaust side look like? How about the head and cylinder?

Cylinder was in great shape, head had some signs of detonation. HTM said they've never had that happen before but they also said you need to run 110 octane race gas with the head. I thought maybe I screwed the squish up at 1.0 but the shop I took the head and cylinder to checked it and I was right on, they also compared the HTM head to the stock head and the HTM's lip was 20 thousands smaller on the inside diameter. So I'm having them clean up the HTM head, remove that 20 thousands from the lip, ball hone the cylinder, port it and put timeserts in place of the helicoils that pulled out. I'll run race gas and see how she goes.

Looking at the piston I'd say that .020" of diameter is what caused the problem. See the little ring around the top of your piston? Looks to me like it was contacting the lip in the head.

That is a weird clean looking piston and I think I can see that mark around the edge of that piston ...

Was it knocking before it went off?

I was thinking the same thing, that's why I'm having them take the 20 thousands off. I know a few people on here have been running this head and have had no problems, I was shocked when she blew. I did not enjoy the push of shame back to the truck.

It's the stock piston, bought the bike brand new in January for $5400 OTD. It wasn't knocking at all before it went, I came out of a corner hit the throttle and "pop" I had radiator fluid all over my boots!
