  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

Any suggestions on how you are changing tires on your black wheels without scratching them? I bought motion pro plastic rim protectors and still find it difficult and an overly long process.

Does anyone know if the polished hubs on the 11 TE wheels are lighter than that of the 08's?

I use the motion pro on mine as well but I do use 4 instead of 2. Takes time, WD-40, time, a warm tire, time, baby powder, time, and if all else fails....a shop for 15 bucks that has a machine. I prefer to save the 15 bucks unless I pinch a tube because I didn't take my time with all the other ingredients. The only ones I hate is my SM tires/wheels, they go to the shop for 15 bucks and get mount and balance. Most places will mount for free if the wheel is off the bike and you purchase the tire from them. Good luck and take your time.

Not sure about the hub question. Sorry

Go to your local hardware/plumbing store and see if they will sell you a short piece of 3/4" Pex tubing (polyethylene) for water lines. Cut to what ever length you want mines around 2". Make a lateral cut on each piece.
Oh ya count how many you use per tire so you don't lose one inside. Don't ask how I know this.:D

I used to cut up laundry detergent bottles or oil jugs to make rim protectors, but now I use small scraps of leather.

Some good suggestions here
I find that I get as many or more scuffs and scratches on my rims from riding than I do from changing tires. Granted, I only change tires about once a season or so & only mount tires that will last a couple '000 km such as MotOZ, or S12's, or......?
A long day of riding on the Canadian Shield can have a noticeable impact on your rims........
Also, I've found much of the paint gets worn on the outer edge of the rim from the tire bead flexing over it when riding.

Great advice above. I have done a little damage with tire irons but nothing worse than rocks have done. I will try some of the above tips. Thanks.

Thanks for all the advise. I love the black wheels, just so easy to scratch.

Interesting, are you putting this over the rim/ bead area? I have a few hundred feet of various dimensions of pex in my pole barn. I'll have to give this a try. I bet it'll hold up a lot better than the motion pro protectors.

The Textra Pen looks pretty slick. I haven't seen them. Is it paint? Office supply or?

I got a bottle of black touch up paint from the parts store that has a brush on the cap.
