• Husqvarna Motorcycles Made In Sweden - About 1988 and older

  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

Joe,
Looking at this picture, looks like the swingarm was lengthed too, (in front of the axle). Very interested,
that's why Works bikes were so trick.

whats with the twin bolt footrest mounting ? never seen this before...is it for extra strength.... seems to make the total left to right width a bit wider ...handy if the rider was a bit bow legged ??? not sure if kris bigelow ws like that.

It looks like it was shortened in front of the axle. What I see is a reinforcement wrap welded over seeming to provide strength over a buttweld. You do not see a connector plug spliced in like the front of the swingarm

That style of mounting is to allow flexibility in footpeg position and height for different track conditions rather than the fixed position of the factory mounts

Just a heads up for all - their will be a write up and many great pictures of the this 250 CR Husky factory bike coming out fall in VMX Magazine

Did anyone look at the cylinder & head on this bike? Cylinder only has 9 fins (AKA 430?) but the head looks taller too, very trick looking.

The late 70's to mid 80's well to '88 is my favorite era for huskys. They all were so well engineered and good looking. I can switch bikes and not skip a beat between the frames. They were so user friendly.

That number 5 on the number plate bike is my favorite frame to ride. My 78/79 cr 390 would fly. I imagine what the 420/430/500 cr would be like?

That swing arm has a sleeve or pipe inside it then it's butt welded. I prefer a key slot weld in that application over just a butt weld. We would even drill a hole and plug weld it.
That Rear part of the swing arm in front of the adjuster looks different. These bikes didn't need many upgrades.

I'd like to see how many changes they made on the jap bikes? I welded a ton of torn up jap frames.

Question????

What does shortening the swing arm do for the handling? Is it better handling in the tighter turns?

My '84 wr 250 is monster long when compared to the earlier bikes should I shorten the swing arm?
