    As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

    When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

    Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

    Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

    Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Bike weights - 2000 Husky WR250 vs 2003 Honda CR250R

On my bathroom scale the Husky weighed 247 lbs full of gas, plastic handguards, heavy duty tubes etc - ready for harescrambles.

On the same bathroom scale my Honda CR250 weighs 217 lbs full of gas, plastic handguards, heavy duty tubes etc - ready for harescrambles.

The Husky holds .9 gallons more gas so that makes up for 5-6 lbs. Where is the rest of the weight difference coming from? I know that my bathroom scale isn't 100% accurate, but comparing one bike to the next on the same scale should be a decent comparison.
 
Big motor, big frame, large bearings and hubs, kick stand, grab handles, the list goes on and on. As much loved as the WR's are they need a serious diet through a totally new bike / complete redesign IMHO.
 
Inner tubes maybe ... Its a racer vs a trail bike also ...

I'm not getting the 2t vibes from bmw as much as other vibes ... Maybe that new 2T that Husky is riding in EU this year is testing for the engine and a new frame is also in the works somewhere?

The only rice burner I'm willing to ride is my gf ...
 
My '00 WR250 was 256 lbs. on a certified scale at the Coal Yard in town. Same as above with full Baja Designs DS kit, aluminum skid plate and ICO enduro computer.. ready to DS or ride an enduro.
 
You have to figure the Honda has about 20 years of weight loss technology going for it. The Husky has only seen cosmetic plastic changes over that time. If you'd compact a WR to CR size you'd probable loose a lot of that extra weight.

I really liked my '02 + CR250's for a woods bikes. If Honda hadn't dropped them I might still be riding them. But, with that said, I do like my WR very much. For the price you just can't beat it, IMO.
 
That is a big difference in weight. I didn't realize how close the WR 250 is to what a TE450 weighs.

I've had a 2007 WR450F on my same scale and it was 282 lbs ready to ride. I suspect the TE 450/510 would be similar?
 
Even the flywheel is heavier on the WR. I know the true dry weight of those bikes was around 235 or 236 with no gas. Think thats funny the old 125's weigh around 228 dry (enduro version with headlight etc...) Yes heavier then a cr 250!! However ride the 2 and you would not think it. The Husky is put together pretty nice and even the tubes are heavier. I myself preferred the old WR's over the Honda Cr's for a number of reasons. The heaviest pig Husky I ever had was a 1991 WXE 260 (a cool bike) one time before I bought a ramp I was using a 2 x 6 or a 2 x 8 to load the thing in the back of my truck. Just as myself and the bike were about there the 2 x broke in 1/2 and spit us both to the ground!! So I bought a ramp the next day and had the darn thing to a 1 night stand (well maybe 2 or 3) left my house (years later) and ran the ramp over and wanted me to fix her exhaust (No I did not fix it!) The newer Husky's are on a diet and feel pretty good. And remember sometimes when things get light, things fall apart AKA(KTM).
 
I use two bathroom scales. Memory tells me that an MX Cannondale weighed 60+ # more than and 01 CR 125. There is more potential for me to loose weight than for my bike.

I have now had a chance to ride the CR250 on our 5 mile practice loop and am about 1 1/2 minutes faster per lap than I was on the WR250. It just seems to fit my riding style better. Different strokes for different folks...

Wow. That is quite a difference. You are right, what works for one person may not work for another keep having fun****************************************
 
The husky dealer said I should be faster on a 4-stroke 250 then a 125. Same as you, I had a nice singletrack loop and for some reason was ALWAYS faster on the 2-stroke. Sold the TE within 2 monthes!

The local offroad guys sure are in love with the 250f's. They are fun, but not as much fun as a 2 stroke! A 450f is fun, but there is soooo much power...
 
The 08 TXC250 I have is just too easy to ride ... fast, slow, street, tails... That 4t engine is a street engine but it REVS fast and add a suspension, you get a very good bike for all rides ...

And they are heavy :) ... The day I can't pick mine up alone ... I'll quit riding .. maybe ...
