  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

Best single sided exhaust for my 2010 510smr?

Not a big fan of the duals , just trying to see what my options are...

On another note , I'm a noob to the site.. And I must say this is one of the most informative forums I've experienced...

It can be done. I don't know if anyone here has done so, try a search. MXrider on SMJ has def gone that route. IMO you'll save some weight but it's a trade off against the good flow of x2 cans v x1. Also there's the noise consideration. If you get the flow with the x1 you'll be getting the noise too. Depends what you're looking to achieve? You could always gut the dual cans to ditch the lard.

MXrider posts here too. Check his posts and you'll find the conversion to x1 plus pics.

I think George has tooled up for this. He's constantly working on fitment for his exhausts on new models. He did the 449/511 last week.

I have an '08 and traded my Arrow Single setup (with headers and midpipe) with someone for a '10 dual setup. You may be able to find someone to do that so it is an easy swap. Otherwise, you can just cut into your midpipe with some minor fab work.

I have never run the stock dual setup (they are heavy) and are still in the box he sent them to me in, but the LeoVince duals I installed are only 4lbs heavier than the Arrow single and a lot quieter with no performance hit. The single pipe is a lot louder, A LOT LOUDER that is the only reason I switched. It was just too loud to ride on the street, you piss everyone off and can't ride it without putting around because you announce to the whole world (Po-Po) what you are doing; and that is no way to ride a SuMo. I tried repacking it (didn't help), using a dB reducer (hurt performance), and finally just paid a lot of cash for a performance dual setup and I am very happy with it.

A Single can is the lightest setup but the trade off is you will be a lot Louder or a bit Slower.

I met up with superjonny over the weekend who posts on SMJ. He'd just taken the Arrow single can off and swapped it for a FMF can. (BTW he's already gone from the duals on his 2010 SM510 to the single Arrow). I said give it a go up the road and he said it goes a lot better but it is def loud, esp' when winding it on. There must be a 1 3/4 or 2" bore in that can. I'm happy with the std duals on my 09. I've gutted all the internals and the bike really goes good now. If you're cruising at say 65mph or winding it on even moderately hard, the noise is acceptable, in my book anyway.

I dont wanna rig something but If I get the midpipe off an 08 I can slip the arrow on, I think that's what I'm gunna do... Sound is not a concern :)

To each their own, I'm just not into duals if they don't make more power. Saving weight is always a good thing even if it's minimal .. And on the sound, I'm from jersey by NYC. If being a little loud will possibly save my skin someday I'll take the hearing loss as a sacrifice. Loud pipes save lives

Update, he's taken the FMF off. Too noisy for street use. It was LOUD. The single Arrow is what he's running but the LV's are nice. Honestly, the LV's or modded OE duals are light enough. Better weight saving is a race battery. With the duals you get the flow but save the unwanted attention. They still shout though under power

I have the FMF on my 10' SM510. Like said before, it is very loud, I had it dyno tuned and got 56hp at 8,500 rpm. I do not see how a duel muffler can flow better than a single, when the exhaust has to flow from two headers, to a manifold, then back to two mufflers. Your restriction is always going to be the smallest diameter. With the single that same diameter is basically taken all the way out. With the duel you introduce other losses in energy, from more surface area for frictional loss, to head losses. Not to mention the 4.1 weighs about half the weight of one of the stock mufflers. I did not weigh the difference but I would assume a total weight savings of about 10 pounds.

I should mention that I do use this on the street, and plan on putting the quiet core in for that. I will be racing as well.
