• Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

BEST Prices for Ti Fasteners****************************************

Hello all,
If anyone is looking for Ti fasteners, the place to go to is

www.ironhorseinc.com

I just ordered a bunch of stuff from them and they are SUPER friendly and easy to deal with. I needed a bunch of M6 hex flange bolts but they only sold them in super long lengths - they are going to cut them for me to the exact needed measurements which is awesome. I ordered about $180 worth of bolts and with Tekbolt (I'm not saying they're are bad just that I've found cheaper) it would have cost me over $500. Just thought I would pass the info along.

I got a total of 42 bolts, but some were M8's which are a bit more expensive than the M6's. I didn't follow through with the axle idea, I just don't think I want to spend the money especially if they were going to have to be custom made. See ya around the shop!

Blake

Blake, when you get them it would be cool to know how much weight was saved. Maybe pull off all the bolts you are replacing and weigh them, then weigh the Ti bolts that will replace them.

cost vs weight

wondering since the biggest weight savings is on the axles, whether the bolt swap is the way to go, cost vs money. I'll buy the beer if i'n wrong but i doubt the weight saving with the bolts is as big a saving as doing the axles...:cheers::cheers:

I will weigh them each before I put them on then weigh the stock ones when they come off. I'm as much inerested in the looks of the Ti bolts as I am the weight savings. Kind of like exhaust systems (not trying to get anyone riled up here), does any amateur rider need more power from an aftermarket exhaust system....NO...but a sweet carbon fiber/Ti exhaust system certainly looks way cool. I will keep everyone updated.

*Clay, any word on when you will be getting stuff back from the anodizers yet? Thanks!

Just wanted to let people know, CLAY IS THE MAN and 7602 PRODUCTS CAN'T BE BEAT****************************************! Thanks Clay, I will call you sometime over the weekend if that will work.

Well........I found out that the 42 Ti fasteners that I bought weigh the same as (within grams) 17 regular bolts taken off the bike (meaning I have replaced a total of 17 bolts so far and those 17 weigh as much as the 42 Ti total). I still have 25 M6 bolts to put on which is going to be like "free weight" then. The only problem is, which if anyone is planning on ordering from Iron Horse, the M6 bolts ARE NOT threaded all the way to the flange which causes them to "bottom out" on some applications. SO, I just sent an e-mail back to them so see if they can thread them the rest of the way to the flange for me. If they can't, would anyone on here know where I can send these 25 M6 bolts to have them threaded the rest of the way (maybe 12-15 more mm). Just thought I would share!

Like Motorhead said your only hope is to be able to thread them with a die. If you need a die let me know I may have one at work.

Would this thing work:

http://www.bicwarehouse.com/metric-die-9727.html

Is that what you are talking about? Sorry, I'm not very familiar when it comes to machining talk. Would there be a special "die" for these being that they are Titanium material? Also, what do you mean by Alumi Cut...never heard of - does that Alumi Cut stuff apply to Ti? Thanks!

Blake

Blake, Aluma cut is a liquid lubricant you apply to the bolt before threading it. Try looking in some industrial type stores like Fastenall, or Airgas welding supplies. If you can't find any nearby let me know.

I don't have any trouble threading Ti. Actually, it might be my favorite metal to work with when it comes to machining.

Any decent die will work OK for what you want to do. Lowes, Home depot, sears, they'll have a die and some sort of thread cutting lube.

Normally seating of a M6 bolt is around 5 to 15mm. If it needs more than that I'd question if it's actually too long. But, I haven't had every bolt out of this Husky yet. There may be some that need more.

I'm not saying you're doing anything wrong or you can't figure it out, but "just saying".

Motorhead is right, I can order the die from work no problem or here is where I get everything from.
