• Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

Best neck brace?

What do you guys recommend in the way of neck braces? I've been flirting with getting one for a while, and I think it might be time. Just the chance that I'll fall and break my neck is reason enough to get one. But what are your guys' favorite companies and ones? I know AlpineStars makes some pretty good ones, one $200 and another $500, but what others are out there?

Ive been thinking about trying the EVS neck brace.
would like to hear others opinions as well.

Don't waste your money on an EVS. It's basically one of their donuts velcro'd to a flimsy, pliable, plastic frame. Compared to a Leatt or Alpine Star brace, the EVS is Mickey Mouse... no... Minnie Mouse. I tried an EVS when they first came out and took it back after one ride and immediately bought a Leatt. The difference is night and day. You get what you pay for.

Yeah, thanks for a descriptive response! Steared me away from the EVS for sure

I think Im just gonna get the Leatt club brace.
I want the full adjustability but dont really need the carbon fiber option.

Someone asked if this is the proper place for this thread... and the answer is no, not really. I really need to work on these types of things.

4 stroke -> Main

General -> General (Main) (Things that don't fit in the other categories): This is the biking related catch-all forum. This is the forum to use for things that are not racing, news, meets & get togethers, or Husqvarna bike specific information that will be of interest in 2 years. "I wish they made a WR200" type posts should be here because it will not help someone 2 years from now. Other examples include things that do not attach to the bikes such as: riding gear, riding technique, random youtube videos, casual Husqvarna clothing & swag, non-Husky bikes, Land Use/Legislation, bench racing, chit chat... If the topic does not fit the other forums well, this is the forum to use.

I have been using the EVS for a while now...I find it to be fine in terms of fit and after a while you forget your even wearing it....price wise you cant beat it

I did a lot of research when looking at the various brands...and one thing is for sure...no two doctors agree on the merits of braces....and there are a few different schools of thought on how they work...or are supposed to work

EVS is designed to decelerate or slow an impact by absorption and it is therefore wider fitting on the shoulders ....conversely the Leatt or Alpinestars relocates the load impact to the shoulders and collarbone.....reading several articles each one has its own merits...the EVS works well with most chest protectors.....and some of the others dont...be prepared to buy a new chest protector....its possible your current one wont fit

Some doctors argue that the load transfer braces may cause more extensive collarbone injuries.....but all agree that there is no perfect solution when it comes to broken vertebrae

My advise...when in doubt..buy the best one you can afford that fits most comfortably

Most chest protectors introduced in the past 9 months are designed to work with the Leatt and Alpine braces. I think there's a reason for that, and I think the reason is most people are using the Leatt and/or Alpine. At the practice tracks, trails, and at races I see Leatts outnumbering all other brands by a substantial margin.
