  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

Battery suggestions for a TE511.

I have heard nothing but good things about the lithium batteries. When my OEM dies thats what Im going for. Better than standard acid battery in pretty much every way. Except for the price of course!

Shorai. Hands down. My Shorai spins (not just turns over) my 610 easily at 35 degrees. And, unlike the Ballistic (which was replaced by the Shorai), it doesn't need to "wake up" in the morning. Plus, they're SMALL and LIGHT! And they come with lots of high density adhesive foam padding to take up the slack in the battery box.

That is the one I used. It works great!

I just installed a Shorai LFX14L2-BS12 in MY12 TE511, will let you know how it works.
It snowed a foot yesterday, so may take me a while...
I'm impressed with the apparent quality - it looks good.
Comes with a selection of closed cell foam to make it easy to wedge securely in the battery-box.
I weighed it on my wife's kitchen scales (please don't tell).
Stock battery = 2.056 kg = 4.5 lbs.
Shorai = 0.690 kg = 1.5 lbs.

I have had my Shorai on my TE 449 for a year, before that the same battery was in my ATK605 for 5 months! Works great. I believe mine is the 14 also, paid about $140 from Chaparral Motosports in San Berdoo CAlif.

You can order the Shorai LFX-14L2-BS12 from BRP and use the Cafe Husky discount code (+ free shipping on orders over $100). I have one in my TC-510 and it rocks! Starts incredible fast and the battery weighs almost nothing.

hi there,im after a replacement battery for my 449,not to bothered about the weight, just want the best available cranking power.any ideas welcome.

I ended up getting the Shorai seven + months ago as per the overwhelming positive feedback on them. It's super light weight, hasn't needed to be recharged at all
and as previously mentioned it comes with more than enough foam inserts to ensure it will not move. Got it online for a pretty good price. I think the site was
"Batteries and stuff" or something like that. The Lithium is definitely the way to go. So much lighter.

I went with EarthX because of it's ability to use a standard charger, built in overcharge protection, 2 yr, non-prorated
warranty. I don't really know which is best, sounds like both are doing well.

good to know, one of my problems with bad stating ive tracked back to a bad contact on the starter motor, will still go for a lithium though.

We looked for quite a while for a battery good enough to put our name on. We had some real reliability issues with the Shorai batteries. Earthx's quality and reliability gained our Zipty name and is the only battery we use, even in our race bikes.
