  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

Basic Chain help

I'm shopping around for chains.

I noticed the "DID 520 DZ-2 Gold Non O'ring Off-Road Chain"..

What's the 'non-o'ring' referencing - is that normal / ok?

Also if I'm running 48 rear sprocket and 14 counter - How many links should I get..options between 108-120.

Thanks for the help and sorry if the topic has already been covered.

O-rings keep dirt from getting into the internals of the chain and keep the factory installed grease from getting out. I went with one of the Regina Z-ring chains. Supposed to be even better. As far as length, can't tell you. I bought a 120-link chain and a chain breaker. I'll cut it to whatever length I need to get proper slack with adequate tire/mudflap clearance.

Oh , thanks for the information, did not know that.

Think I'm aiming for around 114 links... It looks like the Regina Z-rings are double in price almost?? I may just get the non-oring and clean it after every ride. Appreciate the info

They are more expensive, but 0-ring chains will last much longer than non. Usually the guys that run the non 0-ring chains are racers who are swapping everything out frequently so wear is not a problem. They want the lower friction of the non 0-ring chain.

Oh hmm.. decisions.. Do you have a place that you get the O-rings or Regina Z-rings... I was ordering sprockets from sprocketcenter.com but couldn't find any chains of that sort, just non-orings and other MX race chains.. Looking at JCWhitney seems to have a good selection, think I'll look around there.

Would like to stay under $75... maybe the local shop will have something,

Do you know the factory chains are for TE 250? (guessing it same as 310?) ... I haven't had any issues with it but it's time to change it all out.

the sidewinder smart chain is supposed to be the most badass chain there is i bought a RK O-ring chain supersprox sprocket for the warranty & had the whole works cryro hardened so far so good

I believe the factory chains are Regina. It would make sense, since Regina is in Italy.

Contact MotoXotica, Halls, or Motosportz. Sprockets of varying colors, teeth, and materials along with chains. You can even get Husky stuff from KTM Parts.

Supersprox stealth rear, IMHO the hottest sprocet you can buy on the market, warranty, great looks, aluminum carrier and steel teeth! As far as chains go, stay away fro mthe ebay cheapo 50$ o-rings .I just bought one and am less than impressed so far. I knew it was chinese junk but took the chance anyway seeign how it was only 50$ and you could get them in cool colors and they were o-ring. But I was not confident in the master link, and it has stretched already in only a few miles, but it looks cool.
