• Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

Baja husky ride!

Well I have almost all my ducks in a row for this trip. I have my passport, seems cool with the family and the money isn't going to make or break me. Only one last thing in the way which is work. I can get the time off as long as the projects that I'm heading up are complete.
I am cautiously optimistic that am going to make the trip:applause::applause:

Greg and I will be representing the Pacific Northwest (95% sure)!

7. I don't think I have a 70 mile range as I have the stock 1.9 gallon tank on my 08 TE 450, but I can carry MSR gas bottles on my back or siphon out of Greg's 3 gallon tank...suggestions?!?!

David

What the? I'll drive you 1400 miles but I damn sure won't be giving you a few ounces of gas

I just caught this..... Dang fuel leaches:busted:

Hey NW ioneaters,
My brother Nick and I are leaving for Uptite Husky on Thurs the 12th. If you guys need any help with shipping anything down let us know. We are leaving from Santa Cruz area we are on the coast about 50 miles south of SF. We're in a Ford F350, big cab and big bed, we will have a little room (maybe). If you need us to carry beer, we have lots of room.
Can't help you on the stock tank, but I used to carry a 1 gal can in a back pack which will give you 2.9 gals to work with. A tow rope will work too.

Well until then, i'll be sucking on an exhaust pipe to get my lungs ready for the drive through LA. This ride will be epic. I can't wait.

There are some issues getting my passport. It's starting to look like I will not be getting mine on time because of these issues.

I called the U.S. Department of State at 877-487-2778. They told me that the passport requirement for motor vehicles has been extended until June 1st 2009.

In other words you can still enter the U.S.A. via motor vehicle with just your drivers license and a copy of your birth certificate up until June 2009. I think I'll call the Border Guard or maybe someone else and see if I can get a second source to verify this.

January 2014 COFFEE EDIT: some helpful person emailed me last fall indicating the link above is no longer valid, and to use: http://www.getyouhome.gov/html/lang_eng/index.html

I did click on the site and it appears to be valid.

A second person at the State Department and a service rep at the USPS in DC re-verified that the passport rule was postponed until June 1st 2009.

So, as long as you have a drivers license and a birth certificate and the information between the two matches your good to leave and re-enter the US via motor vehicle.

As pointed out by a senior member here it would be best to have your passport just in case......

Good to hear for you! I hate bureaucratic BS messing with honest peoples' lives.

When are we taking the head count? Sounds like some out of town riders are coming. :applause: Might be a good sized group. Is there a head count thread yet? Mike? George? Hello

Palmer,

Check Mike's first post, I think he has been updating his initial list every time someone says they are a definate go.

a couple preguntas

Howdy! New member here. Looking at possibly doing this Baja ride.
I have a couple questions:

1. How much slab riding will there be? Three years ago(?), I rode from San Felipe to Puertecitos and as I remember it was "paved" most/all the way. From there, it was dirt heading South. Maybe I'm not remembering correctly.
2. Is anyone going from Phoenix that would want to carpool? I live in Prescott, have a truck, trailer, and don't want to drive alone all the way to San Felipe.

Thanks
-Nick

Hey Kelly, isn't yours for a carbed bike? Might run into a slight hitch installing the fuel pump in it:eek: Either that or you're making a cruel joke!

Well, Son of a Gun. I never even thought to look at the first post for updates.:D How long have I been there? :excuseme: Now, to keep smoothing over the wife.

Any one have a couple of large tanks for 08 TXC450's I can borrow somewhere between Toronto and California. The wife and I are about 95% sure we are going to come down.
Thanks for any help.

If it makes a difference to anyone...

My going on the trip and driving chase truck went from 98% probable to 50% at best about an hour ago.
