• Hi everyone,

    As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

    When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

    Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

    Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

    Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Here is one with plenty of warning…

The Melbourne/ Victorian TR Muster is kicking off on Saturday 29.November 2014.

Goes without saying that Interstaters are also more than welcome!!

For a day of Gawk ‘n Talk, fiddling and prodding, showing off and telling fibs :-), let’s meet in Kinglake in the hills to the north of Melbourne. Plenty of space, a decent bakery, supermarket, pub etc. and an endless array of roads and tracks, dirt and tar, to get there.
There is NO FUEL in town at this stage and the new service station will NOT be open by then.
Fuel up before or enjoy the 20k's of backroad twisties across to Glenburn for fuel on the Melba Hwy.

Let’s see how this flies first…then we can make plans of linking up to get to Kinglake and/ or make plans for some ride in the area later in the day… or whatever folks decide on.

(leaving everyone plenty of time to get there ….and make a possible lunch stop somewhere within a couple of hours ride, should it turn out that way…or just stay in/ around Kinglake, whatever).

So….grab your TR and rock up at Kinglake for a chinwag and some possible ride, lunch in the bush (bring food/drink?)…or whatever might eventuate.


For anyone not knowing the area too well just holler and we’ll knock up some magic, little route for you... just let us know your starting point and what type of riding you prefer.


I'll bring some tools and small containers for bolts/nuts/clips/bits as I can see removed panels littering the Kinglake main road, exposing hacked airboxes, Wuka-Kings and adventurous bypass-wiring etc...

Got 6 "Yae's" so far (2x Terra/ 4x Strada)....not a bad start, I'd say.
I'm sure there are more out there...now's the time to hit the buzzer, guys!

THERE IS CURRENTLY NO FUEL AVAILABLE IN KINGLAKE!!

A new service center complex is under construction but will not be operable by the date.
Next fuel is about 20km away in Glenburn on the Melba Hwy.

Man, you're game:applause: ...this is a hell of a hike for missing out on the fiddling+prodding :D
You're certainly most welcome!
In hindsight....there's possibly another angle to it, which is that we'll most likely need eachother in the future for spares, advice, repairs, parts , whatever.... and it's a huge help to establish some face-to-face contact at some stage. Anyways, see how you go.

I am tempted but the 7000km (so google maps says) round trip couldn't be done in an acceptable time frame for my work. Maybe next year eh?

It is a bit of a long way :eek: ....and thanks for the nudge :-)) to make this an annual thing. I'm sure that can be arranged.
Also happy to pick up your bike from a Melbourne freight depot (truck or rail etc) with you flying across... to double your time and half your distance :cheers:

Doing a bit of homework on this....
here's a little loop with some easy, but very scenic, dirt roads....which includes a few places and roads actually not shown on the map
(Google doesn't know the area too well :p).
Please shoot me a pm if not happy with dirt/ gravel roads and we'll change a few things.
This route is about 40% good gravel that would be quite manageable on a road-bike.
Then again...as gravel goes, there are ALWAYS surprises.
Some great lookouts (and photo-ops!!), Yea for food and petrol, an old railway tunnel and some pretty, little backroads.

Most scenic, most involved, shortest etc?
How much time have you got for this?
Sorry mate, not smart-arsing around but there are endless choices.

I'll take something in between your 2 options, then veer to the west a little (Strathewen) and take one of the 3 spurs up the ridge.
