  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

I'm looking for some feedback on 300 kits. Reply only if you have put considerable hours on it.

1. which kit did you choose?
2. what is the biggest improvement? (which area of the powerband)
3. Was it worth it, in your opinion

TIA

p.s. If there is an existing thread that has already covered this, a link would be greatly appreciated (even outside this forum).

I chose the Athena Kit from Motosportz...

The bottom and mid range were the biggest improvements with a slight gain up top.

I have 550 miles and 35 hours on mine. That includes a few races, indoor mx practice, some trail rides and a trip to Moab.

I was able to keep a better rider on a TXC450 behind me for a while at one of the races. His quote was something like "that thing really puts down the power well". He thought he would blow by me on the steep open sections.

Here are some pictures from that race...

Later,

I'm new to my 300 - just a quick ride on gravel roads so far , but I will put in my opinion anyways.

I am new to small bore 4 strokes so I though I would be disappointed with the 250. Turns out I really liked the 250 and would have been very happy to leave it alone.

But this winter the head needed to come off, so I thought how much more work would it be to trade the piston and barrel and had the dealer install the Athena kit.

It has made a bike that I really liked even better. Way more bottom end. It will easily wheely in 5th with a little tug on the bars. The 250 required major effort.

So far I would say that it was well worth the cost. The 250 was already a keeper and the 300 kit cures its only weakness.

thanks for the feedback...all the 2010 talk has made me second guess grabbing the '08. Not so much now...
