• Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

Are Steering Stops, Stopping You?

i have not looked but im sure you can tap to fit a bolt as a stop. just incase someone over cuts the stops.
No I mean TOO LITTLE.

If you take off too Much to start with, you will reduce the fork - tank clearance more drastically and run the risk of the forks fouling on the tank.
There is no going back unless you re build the aluminium stops on the head with aluminium weld

Sorry not sure what I was reading? I think I read a 'not' in there that was not there? ie Do not take off too much to start with = at least we know what is meant. Thanks for the inputs - will have a look at mine and am guessing it may be one of those things that one does not notice at first but when you do becomes an issue ...[/quote]

Anybody wanting to do this mod and plans to add a Safari tank later better hold off. The Safari tank clearance is not very much. You could easily cut off too much for use with the stock tank and then when you install the bigger tank it will hit. With Safari tank and steering full lock you have only 3/4" clearance on each side.

Next opportunity I´ll take out the hacksaw and file. Compared to my CCM 644, the turning circle of the Husky 630 is a disaster. Especially as I mainly use it weaving in and out of heavy traffic. When I first got it, I could hardly get it out of the dealer´s driveway. So am grateful for the info that there´s a bit of leeway to work on. Of course the Husky´s got a lot more power. But the CCM is lighter and a lot more agile. I´d have got myself a Husky 500 but it´s not road legal here.

A WORD OF WARNING for anyone with a Scotts/BRP steering damper kit or intending to fit one - you need to be very careful how much meat you remove from stops as the triple clamp will contact the the lower stabiliser tower mount ... clearances are pretty tight there.
