• Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

Anyone Want To Buy Ducati?

bytheway, quite a few motorcycle enthusiasts here in germany would have preferred to see an audi involvement in a different manufacturer:
audi is heavily promoting their ducati deal with their "tradition" in motorcycle manufacturing (nsu, dkw). now there's in fact a company that truely represents this tradition. the name is "mz".

Now that you mention it, it would have been interesting if Audi could have resurrected the MZ brand and developed a line of motorcycles with reliable high performance, clean burning 2-stroke engines for both dirt and street.

actually, mz was never gone. they went bankrupt, found new investors, went bankrupt again,... and so on.
since 2009, mz belongs to ex gp riders ralf waldmann and martin wimmer and wimmer's wife.

they are selling scooters and they are racing in moto2 and moto3.

Resurrecting Maico (in Germany) would be cool. Maybe Mercedes could pull that off... or Porsche.

it seems like you're mixing some things up, krieg.
(i try to not mix politics or ideology into my posting, since that would be dangerous grounds in a forum)

firstofall, we do not have "socialist" countries in euope since ~20 years. yes, we have social security systems.the reason why we have them is because we europeans believe in solidarity of the richer people with the poorer people, in order to make a better and more wealthy society as a whole. we believe in equal access to education and health services. calling these things "socialistic" does not represent their tradition nor their intention accurately. and no, they are not the cause of europe's struggles.

second, the various countries in europe that you mentioned are not facing the same challenges: since the european currency union (2001), greece and portugal based their "wealth increase" on borrowed money. now everybody can see that this "wealth" is not sustainable, but they didn't care. they have finally reached a point where they cannot borrow any more money. italy and spain, on the other hand, have obligations that are - when put in relation to the economical power - more or less equal to the usa. their basic problem is that the economy has some problems. france, and especially germany, are not "desperate" at all.

now, as for the ducati deal... audi really seems to having spent a fraction of their savings for a motorcycle company. i do not understand this decision, but whatever. it will surely not kill the company.

r
I guess in the mind of a European I am "mixing some things up". However, I just got off the Facebook page of a German girl that spent almost 2 years in the USA as an exchange student (living with my Mother in Pennsylvania almost 10 years ago). I find it interesting that she is STILL a "student"... living on her parents' income... while still "attending university" for "free"... at 28 years of age. Not trying to start a shitstorm here r, but if that's not socialism in Europe, it IS socialism in the USA... where many, if not most people at age 28 have been gainfully employed since age 24 and contributing to society... rather than TAKING from it.

actually, you can buy an official 2012 maico if you wish to.
http://maico-bikeworld.de/catalog/index.php?language=en&osCsid=d1f67cd855ebbd0691465ba1f7df107e
they only make 50 bikes per year. considering the low production quantity, they are quite affordable.
i love the idea that there's at least 1 place on this planet where one can still buy a brand-new 500cc single-cylinder two-stroke 48kw road-legal supermoto bike. :)

r

Did you see the 685 2 stroke option:eek:

that's an arm stretcher/widow maker in my opinion.

great for super moto

the big 700 maico in supermoto, as run by ATk was a real disappointment, the engine was ment for sidecars.....
