• Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

Anyone tried the Bridgestone Battlecross X30?

They look like a good tyre, I have a 404 on my FE350 at the moment and they are one of my favourite tyres ever, they hook up in all terrain and get great drive even when fairly worn.
If the X30 is a slight improvement over the 404 then it will be a great tyre! I'm due for a new rear tyre soon, providing I can get one locally, I'll give it a go and report back.

I just fitted my second Bridgestone X30 on Sunday, they are an awesome tyre! I thought the 404 was good but the X30's are better. They find grip everywhere and wear pretty well, I ride a lot of rocky stuff. Even when really worn they still hook up and drive forwards really well.
Definitely my favourite tyre, I won't be buying anything else.

The Battlecross get a big thumbs up!

Quotes from other thread...

Boogie, I ran my new Bridgestone X30 Battlecross tyres on the weekend up at Kenilworth.
Lots of surface changes, gravel roads, loam, wet clay and river crossings on wet rock.
They are the best tyres I've run on, full stop!

These are my tyres, I'm in love :D

x 2

I haven't tried the front but have an X30 rear on the 310. Best tyre I've tried.

I am hooked on the Bridgestone M59 up front. Been running the M404 in the rear and like it. Hearing good things about the X30/40, I am very interested in trying the X30. Thanks for the info.

If the rear wears too fast I may try the X40, but for shear grip, they were both brilliant.
I don't race & I haven't tried every tyre out there, but have tried a few & this one is great.
I was able to change lines with ease on uphill & downhill ruts on wet surfaces....somthing new to me!

Battlecross X30 and X40: advanced motocross tread technology for medium and hard terrain
Bridgestone has also moved to strengthen its position in the motocross (MX) tyre market with the launch of Battlecross X30 for medium terrain and Battlecross X40 for hard terrain. Using the Battlecross product name for the first time, both new tyres exploit Bridgestone’s advanced MX tread and block design technology, developed and proven at the highest level of motocross competition. Since 2005 Bridgestone has finished on the podium 46 times across all categories of the most prestigious championship final rankings: the FIM Motocross World Championship, the AMA Pro MX Championship and the JMX Championship. Battlecross X30 and X40 now make this technology available to riders at all levels.

The new Battlecross X30 and X40 front treads feature blocks molded left to right asymmetrically, providing high stability during braking and acceleration, with confident cornering grip at all camber angles. Tests(4) have shown that both new Battlecross front tyres provide significant higher grip level than the current Bridgestone M403 and M603 products they will replace.

The rear tyres are engineered with Bridgestone’s new Castle Block technology featuring molded convex blocks. This gives more edge effect to the tyre, helping to improve acceleration, cornering and lap times. And for the first time in motocross, Bridgestone has also deployed its Cooling Fin technology on X30 and X40 rear tyres which reduces the heat generated by repeated sidewall bending, helping to maintain performance consistency.

Battlecross X30 for medium terrain will be available in Europe in two front sizes and four rear sizes from April 2014. Battlecross X40 for hard terrain will be offered in one front size and three rear sizes from May 2014.

(4) Tested by professional racers during Japanese MX-Championship 2013.

Old thread, but hopefully this will help anyone interested in a new front tire...

After reading what DM had to say about them here and on another thread, I bought a 90/100-21 Battlecross X30 to replace the $120 (plus shipping) Golden Tyre GT216AA 90/90-21 that lasted 5 rides before the sidewall knobs started breaking off. I really, really liked the GT216AA. So did all my buddies that rode my bike. So, I was a little reluctant to go back to a lesser tire. But the Battlecross delivers the goods. In my opinion it is on par with the Golden Tyre.

Good to hear. I just ordered a 90/100-21 and a rear 18.
I want to stay with a big front tyre and the GT fatty is not available here so X30 it is.

My son has an X40 ready to go for his next rear tire change - looking forward to trying it, it sure looks like it means business, we'll see. I was planning to get one for my TXC250 but apparently they don't come in a 100/100/18 size? I only found the 110/100/18 size, I know I could use the larger size but for the 250 I prefer the 100/100/18.

Having good luck with the X30 front. We purchased 2 sets front and rear to put to the test. Little bonus last month with the $40 visa card you get with each set. After a few rides I will do an update.

110 is a perfect size for your bike,.

Latest update for me.
I'm about 6 or so rides in on the tyres, front looks great, rear is as you'd expect a mid/soft tyre to be, worn to about half or so.
BUT, it is still gripping!
Went out with our group on the weekend for a loop of one of our favourite spots in the rain. Still had plenty of drive up hills on clay & loam.
Mighty impressed.

My FE 501 has a 140/80-18 Mich Enduro now. Would like to try the Bridgestone X40 but see they only offer the 110/100-18. Wonder why no 120 is offered...

I understand tires are measured different, but do you have any first hand experience on how much narrower is the 110 x40 is to my 140 Mich by comparison?

The 140 is a goofy FIM tire. they are limited to knob height so they make crazy wide tires to try and make up for it. A 110 or 120 will work fine on your bike and is the correct size.
I'm with you there Kelly.

I've just run the X30 on my TE449 & it rocks!
I've been running 110/100 x 18 tyres for a while now on my 450s. I don't believe I get any more tyre wear than any of my mates & it is a little lighter than a 120/90 x 18.
The X30 is my new favourite tyre. 6 rides out of the rear to 1/2 tread & it was still gripping. Front is in great shape.

X40, anyone tried it yet?

Wondering if the X30 is great for all dirt and if the X40 might help in dual sport situations getting to the trail, etc... kind of tired of testing D.O.T. only tires on my dual sport 450/500 and just go with a solid dirt tire that will last a bit longer, if it's reasonable. I don't ever care if the front or rear wears out 20% faster, as long as its better when I get to the dirt..
