  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

Anyone running a Pirelli MT43 Trials on 11-12' TE310?

I'm curious on both the fitment and your impressions of the tire. I just want to make sure the 18 x 4.0 isn't too tall to fit properly within the swingarm and frame (2011 TE310). I'm not so much worried about the width, but the height off of the rim. I figure it can't be much taller than the 140/80/18 that came on the Husky.

Also curious on your impressions, I have some concerns over downhill breaking.

Well, let me hear it..

Thanks guys!

I had one on my 2011 TE310.
It is taller than the Karoo; shredded the mud guard immediately.
No other fitment issues.
Downhill braking on loose surface is one of the few bad points of this tire, especially a bit of side hill.
No side knobs means it gets loose fast.
Slow down early, use the front brake and engine braking, be ready to pull the clutch if you stall it.

I now have a TE511 and it has the MT43 rear on it.

A radial trials tire grips better on the side.

MT43 does last forever though.

10# pressure max....7# is best

Some of the guy's I ride with swear by the radial trials tire. My self, I still remember taking trials tires off and replacing them with knobbies. To me it just doesn't seem right.:excuseme:

I just ran the MT43 for a couple weeks in Idaho on my 2012 TXC310. I put on a 2 tooth larger rear sprocket and went up a couple links on the chain to move the wheel back about 1/2 inch which left about the same space between tire and mud flap. You WILL need a longer chain. In desert riding before I left and since I've been back I haven't really noticed much if any difference in the handling due to the taller tire - and I'm usually pretty sensitive to raising and lowering the front forks in most bikes.

As far as the tire goes I love it in all conditions. I run maybe 7 lbs with tubliss and find it really grips accelerating, and railing - not much difference in braking. Rocks, hard pack, sand, slop - some nice dirt - I prefer it in all conditions. It's a little harder to break loose but predictable when it does. Have a race coming up in a month which should be rocky and silty - I plan on running the MT43 and a 90/100 Pirelli hardpack front tire. And the MT43 is NOT as soft as other trials tires so it doesn't have the ultimate in traction for trials competition but it lasts a long time and holds its profile shape so it's predictable.

We tend to use the MT43 on every type of trail/enduro bike in South Devon, UK as the trails are mostly comprised of rock and can get wet and slimy. Knobbly tyres just spin up, especially if you're stuck behind a rider who has stopped due to a fall or stall etc. MT43's grip so well on slime and TBH are not a problem in deep wet mud either. Not so good on an MX course as very little side grip but for tarmac/trail mix they're superb. Just putting one on my TE250 with mousses in the front and rear - too many punctures because of thorns over here:rolleyes:
