• Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

Anyone ride a 2014 YZ250F off road?

I had an awesome day last ride with my mates. Shared my son's 2000 YZ125 with a mate of mine.
It was hard work keeping it on the pipe all day (mentally) but had absolutely no trouble mixing it with my own TE449, Berg 450&501Ktm 300&350 etc.
Big grins! :)

Isn't the new YZ250f an inch lower ? I like the way nothing sticks out. Not sure I'd want to live with a 250F as my only bike but as a 2nd bike it would be a top choice. How easy do they hot start with the EFI?

The couple of EFI kick start bikes I have been around started crazy EZ.

Apparently , if it's as quick as a mate on his 350xcf, it'll be a good thing.

I was about to pull the trigger today on a yz250f, 15 model, I'll now wait till I see if it comes of the WR range.

Get the YZ. When I bought my 03 YZ250F I chose it over the WR as it was so much lighter, slimmer, more power, did not have a bunch of extra crap and came with better components. Also we don't know if the WR is ever coming. We in the US will probably never see it.

I'm hopefull we'll see it on Aus.
If only the 450 would go the same way.
It is like a Toyota Land cruiser, reliable & capable but heavy & slow....

Checked today and threw a leg over the WR250. Found out the 13 is not backwards or injected. Felt super nice though, the wifey liked it too.

That's the model we have here. It is the same one from about 2007 with BNGs.....
It is a great bike for sure, and ridiculously reliable, just the new YZ is such a step forward.

Here's hoping the update across the range. :)

Would be all over it if true SSS forks, reverse cylinder motor, sharper handling frame, new slim ergos rego, 160klms per tank, bullet proof new motor (4 valve) 6 speed box ? Not bothered, about 6 speed, I like the Yamaha 5 speed.

2014-15 YZ250F

Just seen some pics from a friends son who has been racing a 2014 yzf250 that has just let go BIG BIG TIME !!! Motor has been setup by Steve Dixon so would of been very fast, Cosworth piston ect. This thing is totaly shot ! It has hardly a piece of the casings left let alone internal parts lol
Will see if he can text or email me them cos you would hardly credit that this thing was not hit with a scud missile let alone just went BANG.

Yamahas tend to be anvils when stock but I have seen a lot of race motors explode. When you build motors way past their design criteria and then hold them wide open they blow up.

Could not agree more Kelly, Always liked my yams but I have never seen a motor blow as bad as this thing!

Slightly off topic but a good buddy has a nice YZ125 all setup for off road. It is lowered and handles like crazy. We both agreed if Yamaha built this bike in a 175 (IT175 anyone) it would be fantastic.

I had an IT 175 and loved it. That was a real good woods bike. My brother and my Dad also rode those bikes and won a lot of enduros on them here in New Jersey. They were very competitive bikes and were a dream in the woods.

My brother has a 2010 YZ250F. He had Kessler Pro Suspension here in NJ set it up for him. I rode a few times and I was enamored by the way this bike handled in the woods. It floated like butterfly in the nasty stuff and it took the tough sand whoops with ease. It's power delivery was what I'd expect from a bike like that. He never did anything to tame the motor for a woods bike. That can get fun when you grab a hand full of throttle because it's a rocket. Overall I think it's fun.

I've ridden a friend's '14 YZ250F in the woods a couple of times. Strong engine, very snappy, really too snappy for me for the woods (for the very limited time I put on it). Fortunately they come with a "tuner" so you can set a bunch of the mapping to the way you prefer (he rides the track a lot and had it set up for "instant on" throttle). Definitely a rev motor, not as much on the bottom as my TXC250 so taking off from stalls (which happens a lot on tech hillclimbs) takes some getting used to. It makes great traction, stay forward and keep yer feet on the pegs on hillclimbs or it'll squirt and loop out. He's had the suspension done, it felt good though I'm about 20 pounds heavier. Handling is like a carving knife, it handles better than any Yamaha I've ever ridden, almost thought-controlled steering. Starting hot, cold or stalled is easy, two (usually) or three "TDC then stomp" kicks and it's running.

Here's hoping Yamaha put some lights on it & call it a WR soon eh? :)
