  • Hi everyone,

    As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

    When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

    Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

    Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

    Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

If so would love your thoughts on ride differences.. i have a 10 te 310 and have seen a great deal on a clearance 10 300.. it got me thinking..


how is the power delivery i tend to ride in low to mid range... and enter local enduro or practice rides at a nice mx trax with my buddies..
i think the bike weight is similar with a nod to the 300..
why does everyone say the kick starter is rubbish... can this be changed or is it the location of it??

I have ridden both. the WR has a lot more power. Feels slightly lighter. Is more nervous and more of a handful. Power delivery is quite different. I like how the TE handles better as i love what the 08 and up frame brings to the table. the kick starter is fine once you ride the bike for a day. Just placed a little far forward but no issues once you use it a few times.

Anything specific you want to know?
 
I have ridden both & own a 2010 WR300. To compare them, I would say that one is a Hare & the other is a tortoise

I can ride through the woods and comfortably use all of the 310 power.. its very very smooth on acceleration linear all the way through more middle & top than bottom.. i can come out of a turn nail the throttle say in third from walking place, and could do with more beans at low RMP the 310 picks up from mid to high rpm i tend to change up way before the motor is screaming which it tends to need to push on fast.. i would like more tractoring (is that a word) performance but more beans in reserve. The 310 is a six speed and i find im always changing gears.. too much would like more wider gearbox.. (just my riding style)
The suspension is awesome ive had a revalve for enduro although a little soft on big jumps at the mx track... its single cartridge type.. i think these are the same..
My bike is quite heavy... listed 111kg although not noticeable when riding.. even compared to riding a 150sx 90 odd kg ktm. its only when loading van do you notice.. the WR lists at 103kg so thats quite a bit less... i like the planted feel of the 310 in shallow ruts and have found lighter bikes tend to be skiterish have you found this?
Is the power delivery say from low in third gear.. strong & smooth and then bang once it gets on the pipe? can it be compared to the 310 but with more top end? i would like low grunt can the hit if there is one be spread through the rpm range..
I can not get a ride on one until the next test day - january and by then no deals will be around..
I love the idea of the simplistic mechanical ways of the two stroke. ie i can fix everything and not have to connect to a computer or replace broken electronics.

the 300 hundred can be a bit of a handfull on a long ride, it just dosn't let up. I am going to get a power valve adjuster for mine & tame it a little. I came off a WR360 & it tractored way better than the 300, But the 300 has more power. I like my 300, but it just needs the power to be spread a little better.
 
Porting, aftermarket exhaust and fine tuning with a power commander would probabley add a lot of low end snap and overall power to the TE 310.
 
300/310 I’m not familiar with but I have 250/250F. If you could do a linear transform from 250 -> 300 then here are my feelings:

2T is far more powerful than the 4T

2T will have just as much in the low-mid a the 4T, but comes on very hard in the top end.

The 2T can be short shifted in the woods effectively and is very smooth as long as you stay away from the top end surge. In the low-mid range it is very tractable and is a pleasure to ride in tight snotty stuff. When you get in the open, there 4T cannot keep up.

The 4T can be a bit wheezy in the low end and needs to be kept spinning a bit compared to the 2T. You need to shift a lot more with the 4T in faster woods sections and it is not as tractable over really snotty stuff like wet logs and rocks. It is much smoother through the power band and lacks that huge hit the 2T has. For this reason it tends to be a bit easier to ride. Again, if you short shift the 2T and keep it away from that hit, this is not a problem.

I weigh 113kg and the 2T can lug me around and up just about anything without having to get on the pipe. The 4T needs to rev to get me up hills that the 2T is happy to just chug up and keep hooked up to the ground.

The 2T is lighter and feels a bit quicker handling.
 
One more thing, the 2T vibrates lot more and may not be such a good 'trail bike' for longer, slower rides in easy terrain.
 
Both are the the two best bike husky ever built. I'd stay with the 310 as you already own it, and it has the e start. I've ridden them both alot (currently own the 300).
 
Well it seems like both bikes are awesome..... i love the electric start forgot about that... it would be great to have both. another reason im considering getting the 300 2s is that it is simple no electronics, no specialist tools required (ibeat). Ive never been comfortable on my 310 since it left me in the middle of nowhere when the battery died ( was a factory recall but was not changed by my dealer before i got my bike.... ) ever since then i keep thinking some other electronic (fuel pump comes to mind) is going to give at some point.. letting down again.
Spanners & a manual no problems for me to fix..
Obviously getting another new bike it has to be a least = to or better than what i got now.. hence all the comparison..
i feel like im cheating on my 310 just talking about a change...

Kick starter is a non issue. I was really worried about it, seeing as I am 5' 7", 280 pounds and really inflexible. I have no issues after you get use to it.
 
I know they aren't for everyone, but with the Rekluse Pro clutch on my WR250, I hardly ever kill it anymore. Usually happens only when I fly off course on a nasty (for me) hill. So electric start wouldn't be worth the extra weight for me.
The clutch just seems to make tight woods so much easier.
