    As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

    When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

    Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

    Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

    Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Drained the oil and pulled transmission cover on 82 XC250 to sort out damage from recent mishap and replace clutch discs.

Due to the damage (see pics), carefully drained oil pan to see if the metals chunks were accounted for or if they were still in the gearbox on the drain plug side.

While most of the damaged metal was accounted for, I found this little spacer, bushing type thing in the oil pan? O.D. is 8mm and I.D. is 6mm and width is about 3.2mm

This pan has been under my bike as I've done a variety of things and it looks familiar but don't know where the heck it came from.

I've done the following recently: new top end, new reeds, carb diss-assembled and cleaned, throttle taken apart cleaned and replaced cable, clutch baset taken apart, shifter linkage/stepfeeder removed & replaced. Also diss-assembled a parts bike.

Maybe it is nothing important, but would feel better knowing what the heck it is.

I have same bike apart and i'll look but it looks like a case alignment hollow dowel for the clutch cover. Should be two of them, one in very front case hole and one in rear. You can see on the case those two clutch cover bolt holes have a counterbore to them to accept the hollow dowel. I'm thinking though that that hollow dowel is longer than that. I'll go measure and get back.
 
Not the hollow dowel I was thinging it was, its 11mm in length. It may be the spacer that goes under the stepfeeder linkage arm retaining bolt to the main case, 99% sure but don't hold me to it!
 
HF, thanks for the clue. My bike is an 82 and was looking at the parts pdf and didn't see anything like it and noted that the 82 hook link is attached via a pin that is loctite'd in place, but mine also an 82 is secured via a bolt. Even though the engine number confirms 82, in looking at the 83 pdf, my hook link is secured in the same fashion as 83, and sure enough it requires this small bushing.

Guess I need to be a little more careful when diss-assembling.

Could it be the bushing that goes on the shift fork pin that rides in the slot on shift drum? Did any shift forks come loose?
 
Thats what it looks like to me due to the machined center recess.

The bushing only looks machined, the surface is quite smooth, just a little discolored. As I mentioned above, my bikes is a 1982, engine case number 2089-1243, but my bike has the 1983 hook like attachment method, a bolt, bushing, and two washers sandwiching the bushing and hook link just like pictured below. My 1982 parts bike engine case number is 2089-0665 and has the one piece pin pictured above in the post by Michael D.

is it the roller off the gearbox selector tumbler?
