• Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

any rain riding prep tips

I like the safety glasses too, I've tried roll offs but they stick when they get wet, even with the visor thing. I tape an old lens to extend my helmet visor, works pretty well. I Had a good ride today, the rain stopped just as i started and now it is pouring again, perfect timing. Greasy and slippery in some spots and pine needle loam in others. Mostly tight 1st and 2nd gear single track, slick tree roots all the usual fun stuff. Starting to get used to throwing this bike around, (previously on a 250 rmx)

Safety glasses for me. I can breath and they never fog. You do get whipped to death branches.

I like safety glasses as well. I buy a case in the spring. Dispose of them when they get too scratched to wear.

I find that while wearing water resistant (no such thing as water proof in the Pacific Northwet) gear body temperature is high and the greater air flow afforded by safety glasses compared to goggles is greatly appreciated.

+1 on over the boots pants for wet riding.

I also like neoprene socks.

My gloves have tiny little windshield wiper type rubber bits on the upper thumb region. GREAT for wiping the goggle lens. Ive seen a few types that have this. Once you try it, you will be hooked.

I use roll offs sometimes too, if its steady rain, or dust with fog (a baja thing)

Mud tires: run the correct pressures....below that? You will ding a wheel and or pinch a tube and bike also handles like doo-doo at anything over 15 miles per hour. Esp. after your machine pakcs on another 30 lbs of goo.

Some stiffen their suspension- I soften my compression a little if it's snotty.

Tape up vulnerable elec. connections. (trip comp etc...). Then untape when you get home and air dry.

Saran-wrap and or tape across subframe over filter to prevent wash-out. Make sure your air box drain is clean and clear- install a duck-bill if not equipped.

Grease axles and pack bearing lip seals with water-proof grease.

Rain-X on outer goggle lens, No-Fog on inner. Use coarsest foam for max flow. I've had great success with wrap safety-glasses- BUT ONLY IN VERY OPEN AREAS, YOU WILL LOOSE AN EYE IF THERE ARE ANY BRANCHES AROUND.
Use roll-offs off-road, not tear-off's, tear-off's are for the track.
I've ridden up behind peeps and stuffed their tear-off down the back of their jersey at a rest-stop right after seeing ricky-racer carelesly dropping one on the ground. Dumba**.

Strip of tape where visor meets helmet. Tape a spare goggle lens to tip of visor for mud/roost flap.

Foam wedged in bash plate cavity and anywhere mud may collect on engine.

Fender socks.

Many extra gloves.

Do whatever Scott Summers, DB etc. does.

I think you are fogetting how competent the Husky TE series is in the conditions mentioned????

I didn't do any of your suggestions and tackled 50 miles of this trail in the rain. It was solid quadrider play pits the entire way (Deadhorse Trail in Wisconsin) and filled with hidden bolders and ruts. The Husky did it during a 275 mile day ride I took and didn't even hesitate to do another 300 miles the next morning.

Ran 9 lbs of air front/back and only had 1 pair of gloves and never even pulled a tear-off. Did have a Moose Monarch Pass Jacket and Thor ride pants that kept me dry.

I did find your pocket protector and assorted color pens that must of fell out of your shirt pocket. Do you want me to send it to you via mail?

Sorry- didn't mean to offend.

T'was just a list of stuff that's worked for me/suggestions as asked.

Yer the man, bro.
