  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

All 2st Any info on X light frame with a 250/300 motor conversion

Thanks, didn't know that the 125 went through that many changes over the years.
I've always had 250s and now a 300, and they haven't changed at all in 10 years, and will be frozen it time forever. Damn shame.

I think the '09 up is better handling and has better ergonomics than the '06-'08. My second choice would be the '00-'04 bikes. They handle almost as well the '09 up and have once again, better ergos than the '06-'08.

spot on. this Norm guy seems to know a thing or two :D

Yes 09 and up 125s are quite different designs.

If you are a midget maybe .
00-04 bikes ? I don't get this . Ive had all three too
only difference between 04 and 08 is tank /seat width - not really ergos ( that's frame - peg positioning ) and that's not handling either

Riding my 08 back to back with other 2010 125s Id go with mine for stability and ergos
only not quite as easy to turn but very marginal . Newer frame will allow easier wheelstands - more balance to rear

USA didn't get '05 2 strokes which would be the same as '00-'04. I'm short, so the tank and seat of the '06- '08 completely changes the bar-peg relationship for me. '09 up is more front end biased to me, better front end traction, almost 4 stroke like.

I've got the motor out of my '09 so for giggles last night I test fitted an '03 kx250 motor in there.

It fit in pretty well. The swing arm pivot is the same diameter and it looks like it would fit in the cradle but the front mounts were getting in the way.
The big issue would be the pipe outlet. You'd probably have clearance issues and need raise up the Y to clear but you can't go too much without
interfering with the radiators.

My scale is broken so I didn't get to weigh the motors but I'd guess that the kx250 lump is at least 10lbs heavier.

I believe the geometry moved around some to on those bikes. Like Norm I feel the 00-04 bikes ergos much more to my liking than the 06-08. I also like the slimmer tank that holds the fuel lower. These things make very noticeable differences to me. I rode my 02 CR250 back to back with my friends 07 WR250 Saturday and they felt and handled totally different. Much prefered my 02 as did he. Setup has a lot to do with it but they are different machines somehow and you read this a lot from people that have had all of them. I have had a 99 WR250, 02 WR250, rode many 07 WR250s and had many of the new framed bikes (2010 TXC250, 2010 TC250, 08 TXC450, 09 125, 09 144). Also had many 04 CR125's and sampled many of all years and sizes. Like Norm I find the 00-04 and 09 and up bikes my favorite. Dont dislike the 06-08 bikes but dont care for the seat and tank width and feel of them. Also the 00-04 bikes sit far lower seat height wise in fact I have a tall seat built for them to make them more flat and less scooped. All these things add up. Its all a preference thing not an issue with certain years.

I wrangled up a scale and weighed both bottom ends:

wr125: 40.8lbs
kx250: 45.8lbs

So surprisingly the kx250 bottom end is only 5lbs heavier.

That being said the 165 motor is pretty sweet and I don't really miss the power of the bigger bikes.
