    As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

    When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

    Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

    Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

    Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

All 2st Any info on X light frame with a 250/300 motor conversion

I've seen several conversions lately such as a crf250 with a kdx 200 motor, ktm300 with a kx500 motor, and several aluminum frame 2s conversions. This got me wondering if anyone has tried a x-light conversion? I was thinking of a 125 frame with a 300 motor, it would make sense that a 300 motor other than a husky motor would be easiest to use due to chain location. Any thoughts?
 
Would be a fantastic bike and husky should have done that. Your going to have to hack the bottom of the frame as the cradles are way smaller on the 125 and the motor will not fit and the drive will still be on the wrong side (the 125's are normal config). I have not seen one converted but believe it would be worth the effort as you would have a great motor in a great frame.
 
I have a 2004 wr125 and a 2011 te310 sitting at home I the shed. Often over a few beers when the 310 gives me grief with its few niggling design flaws and such, I often wonder about putting the 125 engine in the 310's frame when the 310's engine gives up. :)
 
I wanted to do this. I missed a couple of X-Lite TC250's with blown up motors for sale on Ebay. My friend and then East Coast Husky Rep Fred Hoess, had a '13 TC250 grenade a motor and he was trying to work a good deal with Husky USA for me on it. Unfortunately it didn't come to fruition before the SP sale and KTM USA wanted crazy money for it in the end. It's probably just gathering dust somewhere.....
 
I figured a motor such as a KTM 300 or a Jap 250 with a 300 Big bore would have to be used since theres the whole chain on the wrong side deal with the Husky 300 which i would think would complicate things to much.

I was reading a thread about what your perfect bike would be if you could build it and I thought.... 09+ x-light chassis with a 300 6 speed! Wow how cool would that be!! Who knows maybe when Husaberg starts making real Huskies something like this will be in the line up?? It would be alright to use the KTM motor and get the ignition map switch!
 
I thought about too. Only I would use the 08-09 TXT 450 frame with a Kim 300 mill with new husk clutch and ignition covers.

360 Motor in a 2010 125 frame - done by a DBW site user a while back
When I quizzed him about it the guy that did it said it wasn't what he was hoping for - too heavy- didn't handle well and I believe he pulled it back out again
250 motor would be better I'd reckon - but Id just get a 250
 
The 360 must have a bunch of rotating mass or something?? Wonder like you said if a 250/300 would feel any different or just go over the top with a KX500? I suppose if you added enough additional motor weight suspension would need to be resprung and all that looked at as well.

I had a 360 and it was ok but much prefer the 250. The 360 is like a vibrating 4 stroke to me. Good low end power but kinda lazy rev wise and semi uninspiring to me. Strong for sure but felt old school somehow. Not a rip on the motor for those who like them just did not inspire me for the way I ride.

i am looking out for cr ignition just to see if it livens up the top end, thing is on the enduros ive done i can stick her in 3rd and go i keep up with most 450's and 2smokers just not doing asmany revvs.
its deceptive yes the rotating mass makes it feel heavy but i can just roll on the throttle and go.
no point revving above 8-9k as its the limit.

360 in a 125 frame, suspension would be all wrong.

The 360 piston weighs what feels like twice as much as the 300 piston. The cranks are quite a bit different as well, even though the stator/flywheel/clutch are all the same.

I know the 360 engine in my 300 frame felt significantly heavier than with the 300. I meant to weigh the 6 speed 250 engine and the 360 during the swap, but I forgot to. I can weigh the 360 tonight, though, to see what it actually weighs. If someone happens to have the weight of a complete 125/250/300 on hand for comparison, that could tell us a lot.

That said, the 360's power without all the weight and in the light frame would be pretty awesome, but getting the weight of the engine reduced wouldn't be happening without a serious commitment. The 250/300 would probably be the way to go. Or to keep things really simple, a 165.
 
Reciprocating mass is everything. Bikes can weigh almost the same and feel like they weight 30 pounds different. Reciprocating mass and power do odd things to the feel of a bike. Even a heavy 125 feels light and a light CRF450 or the like can feel heavy. There way more to it than simply gross weight.

Better in my opinion would be to use a KTM, TM, Gasgas or Beta engine (Beta will be very hard to source secondhand), then you have a hydraulic clutch as bonus.

I've had a 2006 WR250 and although the motor characteristics were nice, the engine it self was kinda awkward (especially the kickstart lever). I had it running in one kickstart most of the time, but it certainly wasn't as easy as starting my TM.

YZ250 motor in that frame would rule.

Norm...I have a 2010 TE250 frame if you want it.

I think joe wanted one too.

Really....its only a frame and needs painting as someone turned his bike into a flare!
 
Not to get off topic, but why is the x-lite frame so much better than the 2008 and earlier frame? Reason I ask is I am looking for a used CR125 to buy and convert into a WB165. I have actually been looking for a 2008 or earlier just to get the 45mm Shiver forks the I loved so much on a WR250 I had in 2008.

Thanks, any suggestions on the best set up would be appreciated.
 
I think the '09 up is better handling and has better ergonomics than the '06-'08. My second choice would be the '00-'04 bikes. They handle almost as well the '09 up and have once again, better ergos than the '06-'08.
