    As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

    When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

    Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

    Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

    Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Antilock brakes on all motorcycles in the future?

BMW wanted to put abs brakes on the 449/511 on European models, but not on the USA for 2011, but the idea was scrapped.

 
That right there is confidence with a capital C! Notice the ABS bike doesn't have training wheels!

Ive got ABS on my Tiger and the first time I accidentally used it , it scared the hell out of me. The pedal and lever pulses every time it releases pressure. Once I convinced myself I didn't break it, I really locked up the lever doing about 15 mph, its flawless, you can pull as hard as you want, its not locking up.
 
I hope not I'm sure it's safer blah blah but It will add weight, complexity, price, all of which are evil to me. And I HATE this trend of bubble-wrapping everything. There should be a gap between great riders and good riders.

That said there is no doubt it is safer and will provide shorter stopping distances for the average rider. I guess I'm just old-school and starting to show my age. Darn it!!
 
I've talked to numerous street riders who probably don't have the skill set a dirt bike rider has ....And they have many stories of grabbing the front brake too hard in a panic situation and crashing because they locked the front tire ...So probably, ABS will be good for the casual riders ...

Myself, I've never locked a front tire up on a dirt bike with my brake except a few (very few) times when the tire was in mud or something out of the ordinary was present ...

I'd buy it if it did, then just design a way to bypass and turn it off.

Traction control on Ducatti's is amazing, Gold Wings have ABS and air bags but I'm drawing the line at seatbelts.:D

I'm a dirt bike rider that is on the hard top occasionally ... None of these new fangled devices and eyes sore machines are made for me ....

Say what you want to say, but these guys have to have a reason to raise prices on their products as time passes ...


I also don't believe in that 'good intentions' line either in the 99% of the cases of a business company ... Its a $ sign these guys work for (I'm sure they all get a review on all the lovely work they are doing each QTR or some-other time frame) and just need another angle to get in your pockets and sell you someones 'baby' he dreamed up while on the clock...
 
My F800GS has ABS. Of course, it sucks in the dirt... mostly. I heard about a year or so ago that BMW was working on off road ABS... Front wheel only perhaps? :excuseme:

IIRC, ABS is standard on all BMW street bikes as of MY2012.
BMW was the first company to ship a bike with ABS... in 1985 on the K100.

I have ridden two bikes with ABS both BMW's. Buddies G650 based tourtech bike and a K1300S a couple of times. Both worked very well.

The K1300R is a technological fun bike. Electronically adjustable everything including motor power, ABS, non telescopic fork, anti dive, etc. I have to say it was fast, nimble and glued to the road. Still fun and amazing feeling of ability. I tried the ABS a lot on that bike :>)

I gotta call stupid-and-beyond on the chick strapped into that toy ... You have just about guaranteed a simple fall over is gonna trap your leg under that device if and when it falls over ... Good way to ruin a knee or ankle at least ...They are playing on the ignorance of riders with advertising like that ...

There has been about 0 times I wanted to stay on the bike seat in a crash ... If she hits anything hard, you will be able to put that expensive tin can she is riding in the coffin with her as no one will be able to separate the two ..

bmw just rubs me the wrong way on their motorcycles ... not that they are bad bikes as some many like them ...
