Getting ready to do my first oil change myself. Found a thread or two here with some tips. It seems like some dont use the main drain plug which I would like to do because I cant even find mine. The photo in the manual shows an "oil drain cap" that protrudes from what looks to be the lower front of the engine. My 2011 TE does not have that. I can see a bolt underneath the engine that looks like it would be an oil drain but not going to be easy getting to that.I do see where/how to pull the filters but are there any other filters? Where can you get new filters or can it just be cleaned? Sorry for the dumb questions but the manual does not go into much detail and my bike does not have the spigot that is pictured on page 79 of the manual. Is it OK to use Castrol 4T 10W40? The did not have 10W 50
The Xlite engine revs high and is hard on oil since it only holds about a quart, so it shears quickly. Hence the requirement for a heavier oil. The Castrol 4T 10w40 is a fine oil but it will break down quickly. Probably OK as long as temperatures aren't too high and you are changing it frequently, like every few hours. Clean, light oil is better than dirty though... Order some heavier oil for next time..
