    As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

    When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

    Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

    Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

    Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Another rack option

The racks are the ones that come with the Husqvarna labeled GIVI bags from Husky. I think I saw at least 3 sets left at Bills Motorcycles Plus the last time I was in there.
 
Really like the Nomatic Rack. Broke my stocker moving my bike. Solid mounting and wouldn't be afraid to put some weight on the NR.

The B&B plate is not a rack replacement, it just bolts onto the original rack.

Alright how about RE's custom design rack with the tail cut off and mated to the B&Bs rack, cross plates welded and drilled to suit, would be sweet as bro :thumbsup:
 
That Nomadic rack looks cool as heck. However, I had to err on the side of function. I've got a Borrego rack en route as part of my TCI system. I plan to strap a Nelson Rigg tail bag on it for daily commuting, but have larger waterproof bags for bigger trips.
 
Hey there Donk. How's it going? Let us know what you think about the Borrego, I was looking at these and the Denali. A pic or two would be glorious. I am looking at racks and new bags. Did you buy their Nelson Riggs bag/rack combo? What do you think of the bags? My experience with the N/R sport bags is that they aren't as waterproof as they might be.
 
I have the Nelson Rigg survival series bags, and they are pretty much as water proof as bags are going to get. They are similar in structure and design as my waterproof bags for hauling around my sleeping bag and pillow when camping.
 
Thanks RE. I noticed your custom rack on the other site. Looks stout indeed. I am waffling between the TCI kit with softbags and getting the Husky Factory hardbags.
 
The decision of hard bags or soft bags rests on what kind of riding you do. If you do more technical riding and plan on the bike getting laid over, you'll probably want soft bags since they will help dampen the blow. Plus if you ride over washboards, the vibrations don't affect soft bags as much.

If you mainly ride on the pavement then handbags will be OK for you, plus they can be secured better. But if you lay the bike over, hard bags can be a nightmare with broken mounts and damage to the subframe. And vibrations are killer on them.

A good way to decide on which to get is to ask yourself, 'will I be buying crash bars?'. If yes, get soft bags.

Awesome post. On anther note, I finally christened my 650 last night (10mph crash in dirt), and the crashbars and soft panniers worked great. No damage at all especially to myself.

Coffee, I joined the club last night as well. I was going 15-20 and cross rutted, no crash bars. The stock butter bars took all the hit and bent back to the tank. Found a tree to straighten them for the ride home. I would say one more hit and they will break.

I bent the left side and right side twice each. Bent them back each time but never could get them just right because they bent back and down. I finally bought some pro tapers and haven't bent them yet. This Terra sure likes to hit the ground a lot. I'm sure it's not me:banghead:

Next, I don't have my TCI racks yet. Tom at TCI said they haven't gotten many orders, so production runs are sparse right now. I think the first batch just went out last week, but I let myself go to the end of the line.
 
I saw over on ADV that BR Moto is closing up shop so I went ahead and pulled the trigger on his rear side racks. I'll have to figure a way to combine RE's awesome tail rack with the new side racks. Should be fun.
 
I've been using the Nomadic rack for a month now. Much cleaner looking and a little more forward bias over the stock piece. The top plate is also a good bit wider than the top plate (which mounts to factory rack) that came with the Husky tail bag kit. The Nomadic rack makes a much better base for the factory tail bag, which is a nicer piece of kit combined with Nomadic rack.

Excellent. Let us know how the install goes and how you like 'em. Also, let us know when you are planning to be up this way. Would be good to ride with you sometime! If you can stand the chill in the air the dirt/gravel roads up here are perfect this time of year.
