  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

The '08 TE510 I bought came with a 13t sproket and 47t rear. I'm not used to these high revving engines, and going 50mph when the tach reads 5,000rpm is just a little scary for me. This ratio seems OK when I'm in the dirt, but when I'm on the highway, seems it should be a little taller gearing.

Alas there is no magic gearing that works best for dirt and best for street. Need those old dual range transmissions that some bikes came with. Cam.

I run a 13/49 for dirt, and swap to a 14 CSS if I'm going to need to do a lot of pavement on a ride. The close ratio gear box just doesn't do both dirt & pavement well. The motor will do 5,500 all day long so don't panic. Anything under 5K and I feel like I'm lugging the motor.

In any case, the real answer for pavement is a set of SM wheels and tires with a dedicated 14/42 and chain. I can swap in about 50 minutes and have the best of both worlds. The first time you slip past an R1 in the twisties makes it well worth the investment. Super fun....

I ran a 15/47 combo when riding on fire roads/pavement. Cuts the rpms down significantly at 70 mph+.

I'll try a 14 front. Yesterday a group of us did fire roads and single track trails in the mountains and I must say the bike is incredible. Never skipped a beat and the suspension felt real good. When we came back to the trucks, a ranger was there checking that everyone had an approved spark arrestors and proper licensing. The fine is not worth trying to get away with not being legal. Thanks everyone.

Glad to see your opinion has changed for the better since a couple weeks ago at Stoddard! Or has it?????????

Have a 15 CS gear also, Mike as I recall we both hit 97+ MPH at Racco Field with this "tall gear" In the flat lands of the mid west this gear is not an issue and increases the spread of the gearbox nicely

Yes Paul that sounds correct and wasn't that the day a KTM or two were trying to stay with us as we raced across that abandon airfield.?
