  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

Another Fork Thread 2008TE 510 Leaking- from the bottom

Husqvarna
AA Class
So the last ride was a couple of weeks ago, washed her up, lubed the chain etc. Have a large section of cardboard on the garage floor that I park the bike on. Tonight after coming home from dinner I notice a spot under the front end. First thought was fork seal. Nope, oil is leaking from the fork tube at the bottom. Anyone ever have this happen before? What is the fix???/

It could be the oring that seals the compression valve to the lower casting if it is leaking out the very bottom. You might check and see if The cartridge is screwed in tight. I think it takes a 22mm socket.
The inner fork tube also seals into the lower casting and could leak, but the oil would come out at the top of the lower casting.
Edit: I just looked at your photo and it does appear to be the inner tube to lower casting that is leaking. The castings are threaded onto the inner tubes with a setscrew to keep them from un-screwing. I'm not sure if there is an oring. I woulld look closely for cracks after you get it apart and put some thread sealer on the threads. If you do a search there is a Marzocchi shop manual that will help.
The setscrew can mess up the threads where it seats. If it does you should try to clean them up as best you can before you unsrew the casting. I have heard you can lightly run a small drill bit over/into them through the setscrew hole.

when you say lower casting, I think that is where the oil is leaking from as shown in the photo. The very bottom of the fork is dry. So it seems that it is leaking from inner fork tube where it seals into the lower casting? Does it seal with an O ring?

I finally looked atyour photo and edited my post.
I haven't taken the castings off, because I have heard they can be hard to get to seal, especially id the threads get messed up by the setscrew. I just looked in my Marzocchi manual and it doesn't show if there is an oring or not. You might look at Hall's online catalog.
Whether there is an oring or not, I think thread sealer is a good idea.

"I finally looked at your photo "

All right, thanks for the info X. Anyway you look at it, it's a bummer.
