The first thing you notice is the how light this bike really is, leaning the bike over to the side and picking it up made it hard to believe it is a four stroke. No top heavy weight at all. The bike started so effortlessly it made me wonder why I am waiting for the button. I am sure that if you flooded it on the trail it could be hard but if you already can jet a FCR carb and had a hot start lever I could see where this bike would not need the button. Whatever they did compared to the 2009 write ups the bike starts easy. First impressions was it revs like no other four stroke I have ridden, formula 1 fast. No thump, thump, thump, just again formula 1 style engine. Shifting was smooth and precise, so good that I noticed it right away. My big concern was lack of bottom end power but what I can tell from a parking lot the bike seems to have enough for woods work and with the fast revving engine it will get to the meat in a hurry. I came away less worried about the lack of bottom as I could tell there is plenty in the mid. The full titanium exhaust is bonus that the TE/TXC do not get. I did not get on it hard as the bike is still new but made it to about half throttle and could tell it was ready to go in a hurry. It was a very brief ride and I know it is hard to tell until you get the bike in the dirt. It was enough to make me want one though.
Personally, I think e-start is entirely unnecessary if the manufacturer can get the starting right. I had a 1999 Vertemati with the forward rotating kick starter. That bike started so easy it wasn't funny. In fact, the forward rotating kick was actually much easier to use than the normal style. If all bikes started like that we could do away with the e-start and have bikes ten pounds lighter.
So the TXC has the same motor as the TC if I am not mistaken? If the TE is missing much of the TC/TXC power I may just go TXC for 2010. I really like having a plate but don't want to sacrifice the ponies to get it.
