  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

125-200cc Amsoil interceptor oil

huskybear

Husqvarna
Pro Class
I have been using this for a while now at 32:1 in my wr150 with good results-little spooge, smoke. I recently replaced the stock pipe with a fmf fatty and I took a look at the piston and cylinder while I had the pipe off. I am very impressed with the cleanliness of this oil,I had a look at things before when I was running other oil(yamalube, motul)and there was residue on the power-valves and piston crown. Now every-thing is very clean and has a nice coating of oil on it. I know every-one has opinions on what oil they like and what they think works best, but I just wanted to put this out there. It's good stuff:thumbsup:.

I agree, its mainly what I've run in my husky 125's for over 4 years. Never much build up on PV's or piston crowns. I also like castor 927, although its only the other people I ride with that benefit from the smell.

I have run dominator or interceptor for many years now. Love that stuff. Zero issues and one amazing story of flogging my 125 with zero coolant on a hot summer day for 50 miles**************************************** I 100% believe in this stuff. It is all I run.

Dominator as a lower flash point and less spooge. I run interceptor but both work great. The down side is the interceptor of gold colored and hard to see if mixed gas or not.

Actually Dominator has the higher flashpoint of the two. I've been mixing Interceptor and Dominator but once I run out of Dominator I will probably use Interceptor from then on. I think Interceptor has more corrosion protection then Dominator. Dominator is more for the hardcore racer that is running it harder and frequently inspecting his engine. I don't think there is a better oil than either one of them especially if you are running race fuel.

Here is a shot of my 125 piston after 88.7 hours of Klotz R50.

Here is that same piston 55 hours of amsoil interceptor later, the last 26.4 of those were with the lectron. Something is running much cleaner... not sure if I attribute it to the oil or the carb. Overall I think the piston looks good for a 125 with 143.7 hours on it.

Later,

One other factor with piston crown deposits is jetting. Lean, hotter running jetting will cause more carbon buildup on the piston crown, while richer jetting will give more "piston wash" or less build up. Although I think that the solvent in some oils keeps the piston cleaner regardless.

I have rebuilt my 125/165's several times while using amsoil the entire time (been using it for years) and very impressed how clean the piston is and how free the power valve is.

Piston on the right has a gob of miles on it with amsoil and Lectron.

That's weird jmetteer I have had the exact opposite results with r50 that's the only thing I will run and I run it at 50:1

I only swapped because I was having an issue fouling plugs, that ended up being low compression. I stayed with amsoil based on cost, it is about half the cost of R50. I run both oils at 32:1 in my 125, it spends some time at high rpm so I like the extra protection.

That's not a real good way to compair then

Jake is a good friend that lives just up the road and we ride some. He had been running the R50 for quite some time I believe so has a long history with it before switching.

I'm sure he is a great guy (he rides a husky) but having running issues on a piston well past its life span I didn't think was a good way to compair it is awesome to get 88 hrs out of a 125 I don't know any other brands that get that

Like I said he was running that oil when that piston was new and probably also on the piston before that. Nothing wrong with your choice of oil in the R50, there are lots of good choices.
