I bought a pair of the Alipnestars Tech 2 boots and they are just great. The boot is a short (just above the ankle) design. It's like a hiking boot with ski-boot latch/straps. I've ridden on and off road now and these things are great.
They are marketed as "minibike" boots....I'm picturing a big hot-dog bun seat, no suspension and a Brigs & Stratton engine, but it must be something else these days. I just can't believe that there's a market for minibike specific boots.
IMO, full MX boots are over-kill for road/trail riding. These boots provide the foot protection if you have to put your foot down, but they're still are flexible enough to make shifting a tactile experience. After a few hours of break-in they are super comfortable. Highly recommended.
