• Husqvarna Motorcycles Made In Sweden - About 1988 and older

  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

Akront rims

What year did Husky stop using the shouldered Akront rims? I thought 75 went to the shoulderless Akronts but mine had the older type(I assumed it was a frankenbuild) but I have seen a few in Craigslist that had the shouldered rims on them for 75.

I always thought the older models came with SUN rims. My 73 has them and I believe they are original to the bike.

Starting in 75 Husky went to the shoulderless Akront rims on the GP framed bikes or ML series. The MK series framed bikes (such as the 460WR) still used the shouldered Akronts.

Huskys did not come from the factory equipped with sun rims although it was a common to have sun rims installed by the owners.

Thanks for straightening that out. Just out of curiosity, why would someone change from Akront to Sun? Which one is heavier? I kind of like the dimple less suns.

I remember the silver colored rims on my 72 250wr. But the gold color rims were late 70's thru 80's?

Not sure why, I don't remember if it was a cost factor back in the early to mid 70's. I suspect the Sun rims were probably cheaper than buying a replacement Akront from the Husky dealer. The Sun rims were sold by several different companies/retailers such as Hallman and Hipoint. I also think the dimpleless Sun rims look cool. I have a set of gold Sun rims on my 82 420AXC. I have not done a direct comparison in the weight difference. I can say for a fact the "green label" Akronts are stonger than the Sun rims. I think the "yellow label" Akronts are about the same strength as the Sun rims. Just my two cents worth.

I'm looking for a 40 hole 18" Sun rim for a 74 Can Am MX1-125, if someone has one they want to get rid of. Also will consider an Akront.
Thanks

I remember stories about the ISDT where the riders took hammers and beat the Akronts back in shape after each day. The first generation shoulderless Akronts were pretty soft if I remember-DID rims were stronger and were the hot ticket when they came out. I rebuilt 76 WR360 wheels for mine and while they polished up real nice they have numerous flat spots-I wanted the original rims so I kept those.
