    As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

    When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

    Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

    Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

    Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Air filter seal is sticking to the air box

The seal on the back side of my air filter is getting really ragged out because the air filter is sticking to the air box where it fits against it and rips some each time I remove it ... It seems like the air box mounting plate is getting all sticky from some residue ...

I use no-toil as a filter oil ... Not sure if this is causing the problem but presently I'm scrapping off as much of the sticky goo as possible .. Is there anything I can apply on the air box to help stop my filters from sticking like glue to it?
 
Ray I use no-toil myself and never have any issues with the filter sticking. Do you apply any grease to the filter lip or metal ring before you install the filter? I always run a smear of Amsoil grease to the metal ring and a little on the filter lip myself.
 
No Toil makes their own formula of sealing grease that is compatible with their oil. I use that on my filters that are running the No Toil oil. Haven't seen a problem like that so far.

I believe that is the key. I had an incompatibility issue on my sons CRF150F using No Toil, the rim of the filter almost seemed to decompose and adhere to the airbox mounting plate. The stuff/residue was so tenacious that I eventually gave up trying to get the sticky goo off that I removed the airbox and replaced the entire mounting plate. Now I make sure that the products I am using are "compatible" and I have never had a problem since. I have read about some incompatibility issues before with NoToil. Not knocking No Toil. Another example is, if you use regular filter cleaning products on the new TwinAir BIO oil, you also end up with a sticky goo.
 
I never use any sort of sealing grease ... I must be getting that incompatibility issue with the no-toil product ... Apparently it has to do with the engine oil in the airbox from the valve cover relief hose ....

I'm just gonna clean all the sticky stuff off some how very well and try a little axle grease on the box and see how that goes together ..

Is the no- toil filter oil your using the green coloured. Or the red coloured. The green coloured filtered oil comes with its own Biodegradable rim grease. And you must use it. You also must use the filter cleaner as well. What you can do is apply a liberal amount of rim grease to the metal rim of the air filter box, and then mount the filter.The rim grease stops the air filter from sticking to the metal, as well as make a dust proof seal.
