    As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

    When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

    Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

    Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

    Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Hey everyone! You might remember me from awhile ago inquiring about what supermoto to buy for my first bike... Well I ended up with a new DRZ400 (hurray!) and now I need to go about buying some riding gear. At the moment I'm just slowly riding around back roads and dirt trails with an old helmet and thick work leathers, which I feel is safe enough for low speeds, but I desperately need to get some real gear to go anwhere else. Currently I am looking at the AFX FX-41 helmet, River Road Ironclad jacket, ICON Elsinore 1000 boots, Joe Rocket Sonic gloves and RHOK jeans. Later down the road I plan on getting a neck brace, and body armor. I would really appreciate any info you have on those, or have recommendations for other gear. Thanks in advance!

You'll love that bike. Welcome to being a motorcyclist and after you're done racking up miles and gaining some experience you'll be on a Husky ;).

The AFX is a good helmet but some people complain about the face shield distorting vision. I'm one of those people, it's shaped weird. I really didn't notice at the dealer trying it on. Normally just wore sunglasses. I know nothing of. River Road gear. I hate Icon with a passion. I've bought two pair of gloves and a helmet and it was all garbage and fell apart quickly. No clue on their boots but I'd find something else. As far as gloves, Joe Rocket is good. It's become the standard a dealers for street gear. It always seemed heavier then other stuff but that's the only complaint. If you can find a deal on. Held Racing gloves go for it. They're amazing.

When your trying on a street jacket make sure you go sit on a bike with it on. If it's to long it will push up on your neck. May also want to look for jackets where the zipper stops at the top rather then one that has a Velcro or button strap at the top, it will catch on your helmet strap and annoy the hell out of you. Which leads me to one more complaint about the AFX, the strap is to long and catches. You may have to wrap it around a couple times to make it shorter.

You'll figure it all out eventually and have your own opinions, do what you can afford and have fun out there :)
