• Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

Advice for those considering a RotoPax

Ahh, the 3.2 gallon petrol capacity of our beloved Terra/Strada :censored:
Larger tanks? Not for me, like the lines of my Terra too much!
Enter, the Rotopax fuel pack!:applause::cheers:

BUT WAIT! There is a price to pay for installation

The hard nature of the plastic combined with the sharp edges of the words cast into the Rotopax combine to abrade anything they come in contact with :banghead:

Solution? I went down to my local fabric/craft store, spent $0.99 on a sticky back foam pad.

Stick on the back of the pack, trim, and VIOLA! A cushion that also provides some additional flex when snugging down with the Pack Mount

There are also neoprene sheets that have a sticky back that are thicker, might provide additional cushion.

This brings me to the second piece of advice.
Check your pack if your temperature changes. I filled up in the heat, everything cooled down, and the mounting loosened up. Returned home along lots of rough dirt, found my handle bent because of the loose mount.

Good solution. A note of caution also re the clamp bolt - a riding companion recently had the bolt snap on about the third day of use over not particularly rough terrain. As far as I know he had secured it properly. However he had the longer clamp option allowing two rotopax to be stacked on the rear rack.

You can get variable volume polyurethane collapsable fuel containers. I drape them securely over my nelson rigg bags . An extra 5 to 14 litres as needed.........then theres the water, Sigh.... and tools and spares.....food tent air mattress bag premixed black russian...that helps.

I bought the Altrider but sent it back as it relied on the stock rack and that was the weak point. Bought the Nomadic and love it- it is drilled for the Rotopax bolts so mounting took me lees time than it did for me to find the wrenches! I run both the 2 gallon gas and the 2 gallon storage and never had an issue to date.

Here's my new setup for twin Rotopax jugs.

The weight is carried by the passenger footpegs, the brackets only hold the jug in position.

A nice thing about this setup is the handling is barely affected and you can fill the jugs on the bike.

And my final setup for camping
