    As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

    When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

    Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

    Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

    Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Adding a UFO headlight?

I have a UFO brand headlight assembly that I want to add to my 2001 WR250. I have 2 of these WR's - One had a headlight assembly (that didn't work) wired in, the other didn't. The WR that had a headlight wired in uses the yellow wire that comes out of the motor for power. The WR that doesn't have a headlight has that yellow wire running to some sort of metal device with fins.

I am putting the UFO headlight on the WR the didn't have the headlight wired originally & am planning to unplug the yellow wire from the finned looking thing and using that to power the light (unless you guys tell me not too). The headlight assembly has 3 wires - 1 for high beam, 1 for low beam, 1 for ground. Should/can I tie the yellow wire (that comes off of the motor) to both the high & low beam wires on the light? Maybe it will draw too many amps and hurt the stator?? Any opinions???
 
The finned unit is the voltage regulator and you would want to use the wire coming out of that.. You will have steady power with out the hi's and low's of the rpm's changing the brightness of the light.. you could use either the hi or low and I would do one wire only but try out both individually to see how far ahead of the bike the headlight shines .. Thanks Carl but the finned unit doesn't have any other wires coming out of it. There is only one yellow wire that goes from the motor to the finned unit.

Do I splice into the yellow wire (that goes from the motor to finned unit)?
 
The voltage reg will not have a wire coming out of it, just one going in and then it passes everything over what it regulates to ground. What this means is any other hot wire you find you can use as it will be regulated. Run a hot to the light and the ground to the frame and you should be good to go.
 
The OEM harness has a place to plug in the the powre wire that currently goes to to the regulator and you plug a wire from the harness to to the regulator. The tech article posted earlier is correct if you unplug the regulator from the system you will burn out your bulb every time you rev the engine, however it doesn't mention the regulator also effects the bikes timing, that is why it is plugged in from the factory.
