  • Hi everyone,

    As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

    When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

    Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

    Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

    Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

I just got a copy if ADB (Australian Dirt Bike) mag where they did a 250F shootout and a dyno comparrison with all the main players including Husky. The main thing that stood out was the lack of TOP end on the Husky compared to the rest. I think a good exhaust system though will solve this!! I will maybe try and scan a copy of this and post it to the forum!:applause:
 
I'd love to see that. Most mags are being consistent in claiming the Husky lacks top end. I tend to dismiss many of the US mags but if the international press is agreeing, there may be something to it. I'd love to see the article.

I will agree. Even though the TXC is super short stroke and you would think that meant weak bottom, ok mid and rips on top the opposite is true on this motor. Lots of bottom, amazing and huge mid range, then goes a little flat. Makes no difference to me as if you keep it in the amazing mid, which is EZ cuz it is a large portion of the RPM range, it flat rips. No need to over rev it. For MX this might be a issue, for woods work this bike have plenty of power. My 2010 has WAY more power than my buddies 08 TXC250. he just added a 300 kit and i bet the 2010 is still as fast or faster. The talks of the TXC being weak make me laugh.

I never am searching for more power. In the Dez sure, on trails no way.

BTW i did take the SA out and remap the EFI. All it did was make this bike like a 400 off the bottom, add some mid and the top was a little better but still went flat up there. Had almost to much bottom and mid for tight trails. It was explosive.
 
I'm wondering if the Jardines I see on all Ty's TC's are helping the top end "issues"?

In the most recent Dirt Bike they rode Ty's TC with Jardine and claimed that they found ALL the hidden HP and the bike flat ripped right up there with the Japs.

Additionally they swapped the TC and TXC mufflers with the SA out and claimed that helped a bunch but the bike was LOUD.

I just wonder what the disconnect is with the mags -- I think it might be a motocross vs. off road thing. I mean Burson seems to be tearing it up on the 250 [didn't he just podium down in Mexico] -- seriously -- lack of power? Also, Kelly isn't a novice when it comes to these bikes -- I don't think he's blowing smoke. I wonder what gives. The only thing I can come up with that maybe for hard core MX -- the TC isn't all that great until you trick it out.

I'll be waiting to see what the mags say about the Husky in the desert and/or woods. I suspect the reviews will be a bit better.

The mags hate husky, have for many years, lots of bad blood going way back. I have some stories that will blow your mind I'll share some day. When they touted the KTM for the first DS race bike when husky had it two years earlier you know something is up. If it was KTM making the 250F street legal bike (which KTM does not have and husky does) they would be shouting it from the roof tops like it is the next big thing. It's ridiculous. I gave up on them years ago.

John1 has a completely stock TC250 his son rides and says he is seconds a lap faster than on his well modified KTM SX505. Everyone who rides my bike is shocked how light it is, how much power it has, and how it handles. This bike is a BIG WINNER.

Two words... advertising revenue. Those two words mean more today than they ever did since the print media is dying faster than a slug in a salt mine! You need look no farther than your local newspaper. Print can't survive without ads. The internet is taking over the information industry at LIGHTSPEED. Mags will die just like newspapers and eventually... yes I said it... books.

Jake rode my bike with the SA out and did not think it was super loud. It is on the loud side.

Kelly that does sound sweet. Got access to a Db meter?

Kelly is correct and my son on the same MX track same day was 14-18 seconds a lap faster on the new 2010 TC 250 than he was on his 08 KTM SX505 with full Ohlins suspension set up for his ride weight, with JD jet kit, FMF pipe, and he and the bike with plenty of track time. He was making laps on the TC 250 with less than 2.5 hrs on the clock. The mods on the TC; dealer installed one size large pilot jet and 2 clicks out on the front! I don't know who tuned the TC the mag had but they should try something another sport that doesn't include the use of tools or use of their right wrist. The 2010 TC250 flat out rips. It puts power down so smooth, turns so well, stops, changes lines, jumps, and like I said just flat out rips. A club member and long time YZF 450 rider (and Lover) made a few (3) laps on my son's TC. His first lap he was turning in so hard, sharp and fast he was actually over turning the bike. No doubt IMHO from having to push his YZF through the turns. On his second lap he looked very good. On his third and final lap he was faster on my son's TC250 than he was on his 08 Yamaha YZ450F!. I just wish someone would get ALL the bikes set up properly and do a fair test. I haven't ridden any of the other 250F's but the Yamaha 250F and the Husky TC250 stomps it in EVERY area bar none; not even close. Unless... you just like the soon to be faded Yamaha blue plastic. Well you just read my humble opinion on the subject and I won't even charge you for it LOL.

Thanks for posting those. The chart is hard to read but if the black line is the Husky, it sure looks like it is down on power after about 9,000 rpm. But if I can read the numbers correctly, they say the bike is putting out 34 hp whereas the Yamaha is putting out only 31? Am I reading this right?

The graph doesn't seem to match the max power figures stated on the colour code table top left...

We've seen just under 35bhp from a dyno test here in UK. Bike produced within 0.5bhp the same as 2010 Suzuki and was stronger all the way up to 10,000rpm. The power then tailed off where the Suzuki held it's power until about 12500. Torque on the Husky was considerably stronger all thru the rev range.
