  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

Actual weight of 511's?

Due to the underseat fuel tank and weight distribution it feels lighter than other big bores when riding.

They are not even close to a pumpkin...way better. Feels like a 250 to me, but my last dirt bike was an 84.

Regardless the maintenance is far better, CTS is amazing, and did I mention its not orange?

It's good to know the feel is light. I'm on the verge of breaking down and goin' big 4t.
I need to go DS, as a buddy has been doing all kinds of 'new areas'. I'd prefer the 310 I'm certain, but my EC300 comes up short on occasion.

I tell ya', my 2hun is the only bike that has given me joyful riding over the last 11 years. The only thing that would be better is the proper handling WB165. :]
I guess I get my kicks out of finding out what I can do with less.

Anywho, maybe I need to work a deal for 310 & 511. Are 13's better much better FI wise?

A 310 is going to feel more like your 200, even though the actual weight difference is less than 10 lbs from a 449/511.
The 2013 TE models still seem to need an ECU update due to them being set up to pass emissions.

TXC's have my eye, as the prices are low enough to justify paying aboot $600 for a magical CA street reg!
Lock-tite, grease and battery run lighting. Less drama me thinks.

Just remember the TXC will probably run great out of the box. The TE will need some modification to run as it
should, due to the EPA devices and lean mapping.

My riding buddy Josh Ford had a dialed 08 GG 300 until he rode my dialed in TXC 449. When putting the bikes on a stand. The GG felt just as heavy. On the trail the 449 felt quite a bit lighter. He sold the GG and is now the happy owner of a 511 TXC. I have a 1.5 mile natural terrain track at my house. I have been riding my WB 165 back to back with the 449. Although the 449 is at least 25 lbs heavier. It does not take much more energy if at all to ride just as fast as the 165 for the same distance and the track is very tight.
The 449/511 platform is a very good bike.

My TE511 feels like a big bore e-start 4 stroke, when lifting it but feels a little lighter when riding it. But my 165 feels 40 pounds lighter. I love my 511 and just being honest, it is not a light bike but is a very good one.

How does a 449 and a 511 weigh the same  almost every catologue I seen lists both 449 and 511 as 249 lbs dry

They are the same motorcycle. The 511 has 27 cc more displacement. Probably something about enduro rules. How they can charge more for the 511 is the question.

I agree. I don't own one but I did ride a couple 449/511s back to back to the 250/310s on single track.

The 449/511s felt like big bikes to me.....not bad...just big.

Just seems like the 27 cc more displacement would add some weight to it but what do i know i have no experience

The larger motor seems to always make the bike harder to change direction.....something about more reciprocating mass of the larger motor. I noticed the set up suspension on a well used TE449 made it feel the best to me.

TXC do seem to be a bit better mapped than TEs and run stronger out of the box, but they do benefit from application of a JD tuner, or at least the early 2011 bikes sure do. TXC also have different suspension (closed chamber) and are set up a bit stiffer than the TEs. I run one TXC449 fit with a Baja Designs kit for dualsport use. Getting them plated is not a guaranteed thing though...if I were doing more than occasional road riding I would start with a TE.

That is only if the stroke is longer / crank weighs more which int he 449/511 it does not. Simply a slightly larger piston. I have ridden a 449 and 511 back to back, feel almost exactly the same but the 511 has a little more bottom end.
