• Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

action video cam maker Contour shuts down...

Husqvarna
Pro Class
Apologies if this is old news, but I just read about it.
In early August Coutour shut down and laid everyone off. Too bad. Started less than 10 years ago as a local Seattle company by two young guys who liked to ski and shoot their trips. I met the founders soon after they started up.

Once they turned it over to the venture capital guys, I think they lost their mojo and tried to push too hard to compete with GoPro, going into the big box stores, etc.

I really like my Contour Roam2. Simple easy to use, nice form factor, good video quality, easy mounting to my goggle strap. I have a GoPro too, but I don't like it. Just too much of a pain to use. The whole design just seems wrong... a square camera for high speed action sports?

I don't like to see good products fail. Oh well. I'll use my Contour until something better comes along.

It seems like it's not all over after all. A couple of days ago...

"We are pleased to inform you that Contour has been purchased by Clarke Capital Partners and is in the process of relaunching the business under new leadership. As a result we believe that customers will benefit from the continued development of world-class cameras and accessories. We also look forward to supporting our distribution and retail partners with a dramatic improvement in marketing programs. This restructuring should be completed in the next few weeks and will result in a seasoned and focused leadership team intent on building the Contour brand and continuing to develop world-class cameras and accessories."

Well, that's interesting. Thanks for the update. I'll keep an eye out for their progress.
I'd like to see continued improvements to their product line. GoPro needs some good competitors.

Great news. I was wondering if I'd have any issues buying spare batteries & helmet mounts.

My contourRoam 1600 has taken a beaten and still works AOK ... I'm not surprised to see someone, some how, has kept their technology going ...

I dont like the Video quality of the contour... it jumps around on bumps compared to the GoPro.... I mount my gopro under the visor so its out of the way and have zero problems
