  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

98 te 610 carb question

Yes, this is a repost. If my bike is not running well right off the bottom, when I,m trying to go slow on trails, could the size of the idle jet be the problem? Acceleration is fine. The carb. is clean and this sputtering can't be tuned out with the idle mixture screw. It does have a Big Gun exhaust header and pipe. Any help is appreciated.

Thanks Chuck, I just went out and checked that and the spring is there. This is a bike I just recently got running. It was a basket case. I don't have more than 5 minutes time on it. After I checked the carb. for that spring, I rode it up and down my road and found that sputtering problem to be all up and down the throttle range which seems to be a different problem. Any Ideas?

wow..could just be dirt in the jets, id say, pull the carb, and remove them, clean them well with carb cleaner, if you have air, blow them out well, if not use a small needle to pick them out.
look for dried fuel ect,.
if thats not the issue,,,hate to say it....could be the flywheel magnets loose..

I cleaned that thing twice and I do have air and blew the @#%& out of it, but I will do it again just to be sure and it's free. I will get a fuel filter on it as well, it did sit for 5 years. I had George at Uptite check the flywheel mags and he said he couldn't get them off and they should be allright. This was before I got it running and thought that was the problem. I'll be back. Thanks, Joe

O.K. I took apart the carb. again and upon close inspection found that only one of the floats was making contact with the shut off lever, which explains why it would somethimes drain out the overflow. I think maybe it could also have been making the bike run rich as needle placement didn't seem to make any difference, nor did the choke most of the time. The mixture screw has also become relevent again. It's not dialed in all the way yet but I think I have at least eliminated one problem.
