  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

250-500cc '96 360, what silencer options?

My stock silencer is doing its job, but it's a bit "raspier" (not the coolest exhaust note out there) than I like, even after repacking it, and it's not much to look at!

LOL

What options do I have, silencer wise? Don't want to hack and tweak one, want a true bolt on one. I'm using the FMF Gnarly pipe, and it obviously bolts up to the stock existing silencer, so anything that fits the stock location works for me.

Prefer sparky, just in case it goes into local mountains....

Looking to buy this week or next, so I can get this bike dialed!

Note: Is there a different end cap that can be ordered to take the place of that stock sparky end cap? Just curious.

the isnt there an fmf to go with the pipe? im running a dynoport, they make top notch stuff in my opinion that fits well in my opinion. they make a sparky and non-sparky "mx" model silencer...
one thing i will say, it is for sure not raspy! fairly quiet for its displacement, long as you keep the powervalve closed. i think it sounds pretty good, altho i think my airbox is louder than my exhaust. i think being spark arrested really helps with the noise

Thanks Justin... great feedback. I think when I checked, you had to run a Dynoport pipe if you wanted a Dynoport silencer? That will bring up the cost quite a bit, as I do enjoy the looks and performance of my FMF pipe now. Good to know yours isn't raspy. I like the sound of a clean big bore bike silencer, but the stock one I have now with sparky just doesn't do this bike any justice in looks or sound quality I tell ya....hahaha

I just spoke with FMF support and they said they don't have anything.....pretty sad to hear that, but I guess that's the norm on older bikes these days....

i have compared the dp to my stock system and the stinger is quite a bit fatter, so the swapping wont work.
well, i have good news and bad news...dynoport makes mufflers for stock pipes, so that should work on yours, since your pipe is working with stock silencer. thats the good news
bad news is that its 200 bucks...
360 Husky 1992-2000 Spark Arrestor Silencer to Stock Pipe #U0952

Price: $199.95

check their site out, its too bad they dont have pics, i bet they would have more sales. its nice they cover alot of husky 2 smokes, back to the first lc bikes. i plan to get some pipes for my other swedes. really transformed my 360, but i know part of that was how bad the stocker is..

Ouch! Thanks for the info though!! ....let me make a few more calls. 2 is a little steep....hehe.

Thing is a beast.... I love it, On a tangent, can you still get those Devol guards? Super duty...love those too.

*On ph with Halls, might have something here folks!

yeah, it would be nice to get trick stuff at cheaper prices like the jap guys do. usually im just happy to find the trick stuff, period!
when i go to smaller riding areas i get puzzled looks from people and questions like "good lord what size is that thing" or comments like " ive never heard anything that sounds like that". not sure if those are compliments or not, tho.

i just had DP make me one for my 87 250 i wanted full on USFS legal witch they cant do anymore DP used Cobra sparky's Cobra quit making those so they cane up with the cheeter it will pass the stick test but no USFS # i sent them a FMF USFS# screen its in and readable but the mounts are jacked i think a PO trimmed my stringer

Dude, totally. Never quite sure either, and I know those looks that you're talking about. Yeah, feel the same, as long as I can find things to keep this bike sorted and performing well, I'm def happy.

Ok, looks like I'm in. Grabbed a no longer made FMF TurbineCore. Sweeeeet! ...

Not sure there exists any other options here, outside the DynoPort... heck, wonder if Doma still makes something. Be interesting if they did.

Will most rangers allow you to pass if no sparky approved num? wasn't sure, I know in CA, everything is so strict here.

Nice that DP could still make you something like that, way cool.

my dp silencer says answer spark arrestor...and has a usfs number? i better look again. not that it matters here..
yes, i dont mind supporting rich daly at dp, they do nice work. them being willing to even make as much as they do for 80s and 90s huskies is incredibly awesome to me.

no im just gona cut the mounts off and make new ones BTW my one off special was $170 cuz it took two months my screen sat at the post office for over a month

To have at least one solid option is better than none at all. I love knowing that there are a few solid and reputable people out there that support the huskys, esp the older ones, as I love those and may be some time before I land a newer one....which may not even be newer by any means, haha.

troy, wouldnt it be easier to just lengthen the stinger to what its supposed to be? insteas of messin with that nice silencer? then if you smash the pipe or damage it, you find another and have to cut it as well?
