  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

250-500cc '92 WXC 360 shock mount bushing, replaceable?

Dauer

Husqvarna
AA Class
As the title states I was hoping to replace the bushings in the rear shock were it mounts to the frame up top and linkage at the bottom, the reason being is there is noticeable slack and an audible clunk when the rear is completely unloaded. Upon removing the shock there was a good deal of play in both bushings so I figured it was time for some R&R.
They are both spherical ball-joint bushings that seem to be pressed into the shock body. There was no part number in the parts catalog supplied by Halls but I called them and they were able to supply what were thought to be the correct bushings. Unfortunately upon further inspection the bushings are in fact different and I can't figure out through cross-reference (part no. 8000 73547) what bushing I actually received. That is besides the point as I will call Hall's tomorrow and am confident they will be helpful.
Back to the question: are these bushings in fact serviceable? Anyone have experience with this particular rear shock? Thanks?

if halls cant help i would recommend calling drew smith at WER. located in new jersey, he may be able to help as well.

Thanks, it appears as if they are pressed in but difficult to tell for certain. I attempted to tap them out using an appropriately sized socket and hammer but didn't want to really wail on them for fear of destroying something I couldn't replace. I'll give Drew a call if Hall's can't provide any answers.

they should press fit. i used my ball joint press and some spacers when i did my 95, anything that puts slow steady pressure should work. not much meat to work. i think i used all balls parts to the rear showa on my 95.

take a look at the 94 fiche it hows part #16 as the ball 8000 73547 also the same in the 95 shock
not sure the 92 shares this
hope that helps

Honda use the same spherical on cr250, keep the tophat bushes as new one dosent come with them.
I used a socket and avice to get mine moving, the lower bearing in the triangular block in the linkage isheld in by circlips these are also almost impossible to remove. Same size bearing down there too. Its like 22x12 or something dont quote me on that ive no manual to hand.

Thanks for all the info guys, love the wealth of info on this site!

Justintendo: Upon doing some measurements it appears while they look different, they are the same size. I'll press mine out and compare the two directly.

2premo: thanks for that part number reference I'll take a look. Correct me if I'm wrong but the '94 uses the same shock? Although it appears the bottom mount where it attaches to the linkage is different. My shock has identical bushings at both the top and bottom.

Juicypips: Good info, when you say the triangular mount you are referring to the swing arm linkage, correct? The swing arm linkage seems to be up to snuff with no discernable play, prob helps that the PO greased the hell out of them. Unfortunately he wasn't a big fan of cleaning his dirt bike as there is a concrete like film of dirt and grease covering most the linkage, plenty of grease though :)

to get that concrete like film off takes time, soak it with water and let it soak in, wipe, repeat

Yeah, I've been hitting it with some soapy water then rinse and repeat. That is some stubborn stuff!

the lower bearing in the triangular block in the linkage isheld in by circlips these are also almost impossible to remove.

I drill a small hole right at the clip and then use a nail or similar to push it up and then you can get something under it and remove it. I dont see any other way to remove it. I have done this many times on many bikes over the years, works fine, no issues.

Tip of the day that kelly! I will remember that next time before i gouge out a screwdriver size hole in my plam.

So it turns out the bushings Halls supplied me with were absolutely correct, job well done Halls. I was successful in swapping the old out for you. However it was not without it's challenges, mostly stemming from a nearly invisible snap-ring located behind the rubber grease seals on the side opposite the nitrogen reservoir. Once I discovered the snap ring it required a safety pin, small flat blade screw driver, hammer and a healthy dose of patience. Once the snap-rings were removed I was able to press them out with relative ease. Shock is back on the bike and clunk is gone. Thanks for the help guys.
