  • Hi everyone,

    As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

    When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

    Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

    Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

    Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

I have tried to be positive, but an struggling. My review of this bike is it is a Peice of S###.
I Can barelly start it, Every time I touch an engine bolt it is with a calibrated 1/4 torque wrench. With that torque wrench I stripped a slave cyclinder bolt. I have had the valve cover off 8 times trying to find the sweet spot for it to start. Shim to tight and it wont start hot but will start cold., Shim to loose and it wont start at all. Now oil is pouring out of the gromment were the wires exit the ignition cover. WTF
It handles ok but so do many other brands. The ride is not worth the hasle. I got sucked in on the lower price, you get what you pay for.
Best move KTM can do is kill this line, Of course with this merger I have been waiting 2 months for updated starter parts.
Cant get rid of it , It is worth next to nothing.

I agree that there is too much variability in the product, and is likely the main reason Husky was going down the tubes. Many try to blame BMW and SP, but I have a different take. My personal opinion is that BMW realized they could not make the necessary changes due to the headaches associated with organized labor in Italy and decided to cut their losses. SP didn't even take the chance, and is moving production to Mattighoffen. I think with the KTM purchase, we are poised for the best chapter of Husqvarna history since the Swedish days.
 
I hear you Ed. Dealing with the decompressor/valves this week. Last item for me is to "try" the lithium battery on my own dime to at least get the starter to spin consistently. I did have to use some hi temp sealant on the stator cover gasket and grommet as it was a consistent leaker otherwise. Leak has not returned.
 
Add Insult to injury , The bike knows what I typed here, I went out to start and put it in the barn. Of course I must kick and use the botton at the same time. It kicked backed hard, feeling like it snapped my foot. I am sure it will be ok but sore tomorrow

Blame who you like but there sure are a lot of great brands built in Europe with organized labor that don't seem to have the issues that Husqvarna has had.

Sorry you have had so many issues with the bike. I've really wanted one of the 310's for a long time but because of posts like this and the uncertain future of husky I'm going to hold off. Good luck, hopefully the battery helps.
 
Wow, sorry to hear about your problems Ed. I have a 2013 TXC 310 and experienced problems with the starter, which the dealer fixed with different gears under warranty. I had to replace the injector recently, but rode yesterday on a motocross track and the bike was riding like a dream. I race harescrambles on the East Coast and really am looking forward to getting this bike tuned in. I also have a 2011 KTM 350 which I have spent well over $1K in crazy repairs which should not have had to be done, but it's a dirtbike! My other bike is a 2011 YZ450 which has had a couple of issues but nothing major. I would think your dealer would be proactive in getting your 310 right. My dealer has been awesome and I have to say he has gone above and beyond what I would expect. Best of luck!
 
I believe any bike that comes stock with a 13:1 compression ratio, should have a manual compression release, like the older, big block motors have. I use mine every time I start my bike, I have to, since the bike ALWAYS rotates at shut-down to right up against the compression stroke.
 
I feel your pain. I have a friend with an 2011 TE310 and has had lots of problems. I think Husky really screwed up with the Xlite engine design. But, I'm a very happy Husky owner. My 09 TE310 just turned over 10,000 miles with zero engine work. Nothing! Probably the most reliable dirt bike I have owned. I sure hope KTM/Husaberg/Husky turns it around. I may need a new bike soon and I like red&white.

I am glad to hear someone else speak out about having problems with the 310. Its tough to speak bad about a a husky on this site without someone else trying to take up for the bike or justify why it isn't the bike. I recommend getting rid of the thing. I personally have been wanting to try a Beta 250 or 300. For being a first year bike they seem to have really hit the nail on the head much better than Husqvarna has (and these husky's have been around for several years). Also, all these people complaining about KTM can just keep it to themselves. The reality is that the KTM is a better bike, plain and simple. If it wasn't it wouldn't be so popular. You think all those people would buy them because their terrible? Or they would get great reviews because they suck? No! I can't stand the bias on this site. I get that it is a Husqvarna site, but jeez don't try to bash another brand every chance you get, specially not the brand that's at the king of the enduro heap.

I have to agree with you ED I have a 13 te 310 r with 11 hours on it and its a pos
its been in the shop for 2 months now and the warranty has been put in , but there is no response at the other end.
 
Its one thing to to come on this forum to ask questions to solve your probelms. Its another to start a thread just to bit*h. Which you have done and which this thread has become. It does suck when folks try to justify problems because their brand lovers but, theirs plenty of folks on here that only need a respectful question and would be happy to help.

Please price your bikes in the classifieds accordingly- next to nothing, and ill be happy to buy, fix and ride the snot out of them.

I can assure you that my post was not to bitch, It was to inform people what I have gone through with 9 hours on a bike, I have spent way to many hours reading all the x-lite threads on this forum trying to figure it out. The fact is it is a POS. Just look at the replies from this post. I can not get the parts I need,

And to top it off I cant put any weight on my right ankle this morning, It kicked backed like I have never seen in 30 years on a dirtbike, WTF

My guess with out even looking at it is maybe I have a sheared flywhhel key and it is out of time
 
Bummer, hate when things go wrong. I am ticking to 15hrs and bike is awesome. Only issues I've had was a connector at computer and couple bolts on exhaust heat shield.

Mine would dead lock sometimes with stock battery. The new gears seem to be better and mine always fires hot with no throttle.

There are tons of these bikes racing and are going trouble free.

Maybe check the spring on decompression gizmo? Stuff a lithium battery in her with some good CCA amps.
 
i have been WAY underwhelmed by the quality of the build of my 2013 TXC310r - like you, i got in on the rebate. at 14 hours, i think i FINALLY have all the issues sorted and the last few rides have been spectacular.

the first 14 hours i wanted to roll the dumb thing off a cliff, could not believe that was the quality of a "new" bike. left me dead on the trail 3 times, wishing i was still on my old trusty yamaha

hang in there - you'll get them sorted. it is a good bike to ride, but there is no excuse for how the bikes are assembled (which most of my issues were assembly, so good riddance to those lazy italian teamsters)

i have read in another thread where a member was using the starter and the kicker for hare scrable dead engine starts and they ended up having issues with the flywheel.....hope yours is alright, but i wouldn't advise that as a good starting method.

i'm guessing you don't have the updated starter parts? mine sometimes jams up when the piston is at TDC but works for the most part. it can be a bear when it's hot but it eventually fires up. again, not even close to my 10 year old yamaha as far as refinement.

What problems have you had with your bike?
 
Not good to hear of faults , but it happens with other Brands too.

I have had / have 5 X-Lites (2 x 010 TC250, 011 & 012 TE310 and 013 TXC 310).
Never have I had to adjust a Valve, never had a Stripped Thread, never had an Oil Leak.

I had the signs of "The Starter" problem on my 013 but the Dealer replaced gears and all is good .
My only other real issues have been a broken Oil Pump Drive Gear and a broken Kickstart Shaft on a 010.
Everything was fixed FOC immediately.

I tend to think that if you buy a Race Bike, you will get some issues BUT it is how these issues are resolved which counts.
From what I read on this Forum, some Dealers in the US are not all they could be ?
When I had problems, my Dealer removed parts from a Bike in the Showroom FOC , and I was on my way same day .
I have never waited for a part or service . Maybe I am lucky ?
But a good Dealer can go a long way to solve these problems and keep the customer happy.

KTM have "killed this line" along with the Brand, so you have your wish, but some of us think that is a backward step as we don't want to ride KTMs !
I wont repeat myself but have posted in "Actual News on Sale" Thread on this Subject.

I hope you get your new Starter Gears and the Dealer gets you sorted, as you have a great bike there .
