• Husqvarna Motorcycles Made In Sweden - About 1988 and older

  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

88 400WR clutch basket

Thanks 2premo! I have sent an email to the address you supplied, just have to wait to see what the cost will be.

Thanks again 2premo, but I have had no joy with this clutch basket either, am I just being a tight a$$ or am I out of touch with prices because $600 AUD seems an awful lot for a clutch basket?
I guess the hard thing to swallow is that the part is listed on European and US (AOMC.com) websites as $75 USD and $85 Euro plus shipping but none in stock. Still waiting to hear if the part is available or NLA.
Tony.

Please all remember Rick has reconditioned or rebuilt Clutch Ring Gears. Cost is $250. This is a newly hobbed small kick start gear attached by welding this
new gear to the clutch ring. He made a batch of the small tooth and large tooth gears and they all sold out. Last time i talked with him he was going to make
another batch. I got a call into now and will let you know if he has any made.

Well I managed to find a complete clutch here in Australia, $385 AUD ($267.50 USD) delivered, now awaiting it's arrival.
I do want to thank everyone for all of the help and suggestions, it is a little peace of mind knowing it has the correct part for the model and should have me riding this old girl fairly soon!
Tony.

nice, soon you will be able to ride the finest chassis the swede huskies have to offer. great bike

It's interesting to note that the Italians stuck with essentially that same frame for their four strokes into the late 90's, possibly later.

If it ain't broke, don't fix it.

the rear suspension also works much better with the redesigned linkage and generally softer springs found on the 87-88 compared to the 85-86..
best seat ever as well. no white plastic tank to fade from gas, pretty slick having the black tank and white overlays

I had read somewhere that they changed from '86 to '87, but wasn't sure if it had any positive effect.
I hope to enter a Vinduro event not far from home on the 10th and 11th October for it's first outing, until then I will be test riding it on my farm. I may have to fire up the bulldozer and build a natural terrain motocross track?

on the basket I will finally have access to my stash tomorrow
have a couple and one good basket all alone, oh well
all the best on riding your way cool 87, love mine

biggest problem with the 86-86 is the excessive parts to the linkage
the 87-88 is much more refined and lighter

Sounds like a "Win Win", simpler, lighter and more refined, that's one of the things that Husky were good at, keeping their bikes simple but very effective.

Sorry 2premo, I located a complete clutch here in Australia (post 28). Thanks for your suggestions though.
