• Husqvarna Motorcycles Made In Sweden - About 1988 and older

  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

88 400WR clutch basket

Husqvarna
Pro Class
Hi, I am in need of a clutch basket for my 1988 400WR. It has the six bolt clutch and I believe it may be interchangeable with a 430WR or 430XC.

Mine has suffered some damage from a less than observant assembly by the PO.
Does anyone have a spare clutch basket they would be prepared to sell?

I am in Australia but will pay for shipping if the price is fair.

give mick hughes a ring TB, he is Bendigo Dirt Bikes and is Mr husky in Victoria. flick me a text and ill send his no to you

Usually the problem with that part is the small gear on the back has worn through the hardening and is eroding. It looks in the picture in this thread the edge of the teeth in the area on top is still in tact and there is something odd in the gulley. Most of the teeth do have chipping at the edge. If you can get a dial indicator on the crank end or possibly a section of the gear might see if that runs true. I think the four stroke models have the same primary reduction could check the part numbers.

Well it was cheap enough but I was sniped at the last second and missed it.
So I thought I would post a couple of pics that may be pertinent to anyone who has one but doesn't know if it will fit.

I spoke to Mick Hughes and he has sold all of his 80's husky parts to a guy up north somewhere, he can't remember his name. Still looking.

There is a wreckers in Coff's Harbour . Toormina to be precise , can't recall their trading name exactly , might be " JDK Motorcycle Wreckers " or something similar , they regularly wreck Husky's , it would probably pay to check out compatability between the models and years and ring them to see if they have what you are after . They are really slack about checking it out and calling back though , don't give them that option , tell them that you will call them back in an hour or two and you want other bits but this is the test case for them , make em work for your money .

Just pulled this from their pretty poor web page , 89 WRK 250 , so like I said , check compatability for the part you need and suss them out . Also , if it is compatible with later Cagiva bits , Stephan at Emu Plains ( R&D Husky ) will likely be able to get you new parts if you don't mind paying the ask for them , always preferable to my way of thinking .

Thanks for the suggestions Oldfatbeerman, the guy from JDK hasn't answered my emails and Stefan tells me that the part is no longer available.

The 250's use the same idler gear, pressure plate, clutch plates both metal and fibre, but a different primary gear and hub according to parts manuals. This looks good for the sake of interchangeability between the models, but also poses more questions.

By scouring more parts lists, I have determined that the primary drive gear (161107501) and idler gear (161127501) between the clutch basket and kickstarter are the same part number as a 1990 510 TE/TC.
This indicates to me that the number of teeth on the 510 clutch basket is the same as my '88 400WR.

Can anyone tell me if the 510 clutch will fit in a 400? The only thing that may be an issue is the 510 basket runs on a bush and the 400 runs on a needle roller, but may be the same internal diameter?

the 510 clutch is an early design, think 85-86 2 smoke stuff
the 4 strokes were back burner in those days
did you look on fleabay?

Hi 2premo, I'm still kicking myself for missing a complete clutch on fleabay, I was sniped with 2 seconds to go! My fault for not putting a high enough bid on it. There is a guy here in Australia who has fitted a 510 clutch in a 430 but he didn't mention the year models so I don't know if it was air cooled or water cooled. The water cooled 510 seems to be very similar and I believe 85-86 model 400 5 spring clutches will fit also, so there are a couple of possibilities for alternatives.

when i am home and have a moment i might have some stuff
work on the road is the tough part
exactly what did you need?

I know a clutch basket with "403" stamped on the back will fit, but anything else would require an entire clutch I think. There may be other baskets that will fit, but I am having a lot of trouble finding out which ones will. It's killing me not being able to ride this bike!
Any help appreciated, Tony.

Thanks Jim, I am aware of that one but keeping it as a last resort, the exchange rate and shipping to Australia is very expensive so a good used one is preferred if available.
