  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

'87 XC Front Axle Spacers

motorick

Husqvarna
AA Class
Reassembling the front wheel, and want to make sure the shorter spacers are positioned correctly. The long ones are easy, head 'cap' facing out engaging the axle nuts. I put the short ones with the 'cap' against the bearing and the smooth end against the large spacer. Is this correct? Sorry for stupid question, but couldn't tell by either the parts / service manuals.

If you referring to the "cap" as the larger flanged end, then yes the flange on the spacer(s) goes toward the bearing.

Thanks Marty! Realized a pic could better describe my question:

posted same question on facebook group and got 2 different opinions, so 1 is for the way I currently have it and 2 say I've got it backwards : )

the bearing is a sealed unit and the spacer needs to ride on the inner race
if the spacer has a ridge that meets the bearing race first then yes it goes that way
here is an 87 with a different front axle design and you can see where the spacer rides on the inner race clearly

this is how all the 87-88 front axles i have look.

The picture in post 3 does not correlate to that year the way I recall stuff and the way the parts sheets are. The axle of the 430xc model is the part #23, while for the 250xc the part #7. Both need to be able to be turned as part #6 has internal threads for the axle. I set part 6 to get a centered wheel and then tighten the four little nuts (3 showing in picture in post 3) after the axle is installed. There is an odometer drive in that area not shown, perhaps not used that year, As long as the spacer does not rub something that spins you should be fine.
