• Husqvarna Motorcycles Made In Sweden - About 1988 and older

  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

83 250WR fork and washer question

First easy: where do these two washers go? Cant remember for the life of me. They do not go in the motor, didn’t have that apart. Somewhere forks, tank?

Second: can the studs on this fork leg be replaced? Top right is gone, had to cut the nut off. What are my fixing options?

Thanks

Yes the studs can be replaced. They just unscrew from the fork leg. Best to apply some heat to the leg casting prior to trying to unscrewing them as they are usually loctited in. The heat will melt the Loctite.

What size are the shims? And what all have you had apart on the bike?

Marty

Slightly larger diameter than a quarter. Slightly thicker, too.

Front tire off. Forks off and apart. Tank and exhaust off. Cylinder off for boring.

99% sure they aren’t from another bike but there’s that 1%..,,

Are the washers flat or cone shaped? If they are cone shaped and aluminum, they would be out of a newer(86CR XC or 87 all) fork set

not off the fork caps are they? i cant remember if there are big washers under the fork caps. check the HVA Factory website for a parts manual download, you will see where they come from. also Phil at husqvarnaparts.com has the fork studs you need

I don't believe they came from under the fork caps. They do not belong to another Husqvarna because this is my only one. I'm pretty positive I took them off this one as they were in a tray under my rolling seat along with all the rubber bits and a few nuts and bolts that came off when I pulled the forks out to change the oil and seals. I also pulled the left side plastics off, the exhaust, the carb, the cylinder and head, and the gas tank.

couple more photos.
Inner Diameter is 17.69mm
Outer Diameter is 27mm
Thickness is 1.85mm

I am with post 6 here. Do not recall such a part in the 40mm forks. Maybe at the end there were two springs with something like that in between. I seem to have trouble finding the right picture of what I have inside mine.

Well if they don't go anywhere they don't go anywhere.

However under my fork caps I definitely have a spacer then an aluminum tube about 2" tall, and then another spacer. Both spacers are extremely thin aluminum. And under this set up are the springs.

Guess I'll pull the fork caps off and take a photo and show the group tonight.

Why are you fighting us back. Those are not stock ! We are here the help.

Just look up any year exploded view drawing of any 40mm fork Husky had in their parts books, do you find these - no.

Go to Husqvarna outlet as he has them, the yearly parts diagrams, set up to open fast. And if you want to have fun go look at the 87 40mm forks yes they have more parts and pieces to look at

I'm not. I'm just confused as to where they came from. And when I looked at the diagram of the forks I know mine are different, which is why I said I'm going to take the caps off and take photos of what mine look like.

This is how my forks are built up. The spring is the long spring.

Yep. Normally I try to, but now I can completely remember telling myself "Oh I'll remember these because the last bikes I worked on did not have them" And then here we are. Man that would have been one huge screw up.

On my post 15 - that doesn't look like how the manual has the forks - should there be a short spring in there or is that washer, spacer, washer correct?

Maybe I missed something? Why would you want to leave the piston/pin spacers out? You need to have them installed unless you are using a piston that does not use or need them.
